North Solitary Islands and Pimpernel Rock Weekend Trip
Event information
Missed out on reef trip? Want tropical conditions without the fuss of leaving NSW? Have we got the trip for you!
Come see sharks, coral reef, manta, and Nemo!
Take a couple of days off this November and join the underwater club as we venture to dive sites in the Pimpernel Rock and North Solitary Islands marine parks.
Pimpernel Rock Pinnacles offer a dive site 10-40m deep with an epic ocean cave, resident grey nurse, and a variety of pelagics. This is a commonwealth protected marine park and boasts an abundance of marine life.
Visiting this site can be temperamental. Sea conditions including wind and swell affect the voyage itself whereas current can impact diver safety. We will assess site suitability as required.
North Solitary Island group is a shorter ride from Wooli than Pimpernel Rock. It is a state managed marine park that offer a diverse selection of diving opportunities. There are open water and advanced open water level sites. From shallower anemone gardens to expansive coral reefs. There's even an opportunity for a drift dive!
Trivia: As far as I am aware there has not been a club trip like this in our recent memory. I have asked around and the best I have heard is that someone may have gone years ago.
Come and make history with us. New trip!
Registration opens 7pm Tuesday 30th September. Waitlist RSVP opens 7:10pm.
Wooli extended weekend away Thu 6th - Sun 9th November
Schedule -
Thursday 6th: Drive to Wooli NSW. (UNSW Sydney to Wooli ~630km, 7h drive). Arrive latest 10pm. Recommend driving during daylight hours and carpooling where possible to manage fatigue.
Friday 7th: Everyone gets two dives. Plan is deepest first: Pimpernel Rock followed by North Solitary Islands.
Bring two full tanks for a double dive roundtrip.
We will fill our own tanks with the club compressor for two more dives each on Saturday. Sleeves up to make it happen.
Saturday 8th: Two more dives per person as above. Party night! Theme TBA.
Sunday 9th: Checkout 10am. Group photo. Drive home safely.
Conditions -
Minimum advanced open water certification or equivalent with at least 40 logged dives. Have logged at least one dive in the last 6 months.
We will be visiting some advanced dive sites and attendees will be required to dive independently in buddy pairs without professional supervision. We are a volunteer club and expect private divers to be competent and safe.
We will be required to cross a coastal bar with divers on board to make the trip. There will not be an interval on land between dives each day. We have opted to take 16 instead of 18 on this trip to account for our offshore exposure and vessel capacity in light of our activities. We will spit ourselves into two groups and a total of two round trips and four dives are planned for each diving day: Friday and Saturday.
Tickets - $230
Registration will open 7pm Tuesday 30th September. The waitlist will open 7:10pm.
We hope this will give you enough time to clear your calander!
Boat dives - $30 per dive
Gear -
Attendees are responsible for their own gear and tanks. The club offers some hire facilities:
