There's nothing worse than going for a dive and being greeted by plastic bottles, drink cans, rubber shoe soles, takeaway coffee cup lids, etc. The widespread pollution of plastics and the emergence of the 'plastispehere' (scary stuff!) is catastrophic for both marine health and our own. Come join your fellow diving enthusiasts and ocean lovers at the UNSW Underwater Clubs own 'Clean Up Dive'! 

We'll do both a dive clean up and a beach clean up, so whether you are a snorkeler, freediver, scubadiver or if you actually don't like to get wet, you can participate!

We will be meeting at Malabar Beach on Saturday 12th of May for a beach / dive cleanup. 
The plan is to go out for a dive and collect as much plastic rubbish as we can. We will then be reporting our collection to Project Aware citizen science program Dive Against Debris. This will involve weighing and classifying the rubbish using their data card, and we'll need your help for this!

The Underwater Club will be hiring out diving and snorkeling gear.
The event is opened to everybody and you're more than welcome to come with your own gear. If you want to hire gear from the club you'll need to become a member of the club if you want to hire gear (it only takes a few clicks and a few $$)

There are over 20 full sets of diving and snorkelling gear available - first in best dressed. Gear is hired out weekly and is available for pickup on the Tuesday or Thursday before between 6-6:30pm from our gear shed on campus. You are responsible for picking up and dropping off your own gear. 

Dive gear:
BCD - $10/week
Tanks (hired out empty) - $10/week
Set of regulators - $10/week
Set of weights - $5/week
(Note: you will need your openwater diving certificate to dive with us.)

Snorkel gear:
Pair of fins - $10/week
Mask and snorkel - $10/week
Wetsuit - $10/week

PRO DIVE Coogee, Dive Centre Bondi, and Sydney Dive Safari have kindly offered to support our clean-up day by giving divers free air fills! If you are filling up at Sydney Dive Safari, bring along some proof you are involved in the event, such as UNSW student ID or Underwater Club membership proof. If you are a non-member just joining us for the day and want to fill up at SDS, contact Diana on dmatovic@psy.unsw.edu.au or on messenger (Diana Doprinijeti) and i can send a message to SDS confirming your involvement.
