Join girls from sailing clubs across NSW and the ACT for an unforgettable weekend designed to inspire the next generation of female sailors.

Hosted by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, OptiChicks is much more than a sailing weekend. It’s an opportunity to build lasting friendships, be mentored by inspiring female sailors, experience different boats, build confidence and discover the many exciting pathways our sport has to offer.

Whether your daughter dreams of representing Australia, coaching the next generation, volunteering at her club or simply enjoying sailing with friends, OptiChicks celebrates everything that makes our sport so special.

Who is OptiChicks for?

Girls aged 8–15 who sail an Optimist.

Whether she’s in Tackers or is competing at State and National Championships, OptiChicks welcomes girls of all experience levels. The weekend isn’t about winning races—it’s about building confidence, making friends and having fun on the water.

Why OptiChicks?

One of the biggest challenges facing our sport is keeping girls involved as they move through their teenage years.

OptiChicks was created to help girls develop lifelong friendships, connect with inspiring female role models and discover the many exciting opportunities sailing can offer.

The RPAYC Discover Sailing Centre abides by the Australian Sailing Instructor/Student ratios, hence places are strictly limited. All courses are subject to change with limited notice, based on demand and availability. To avoid disappointment, we recommend registering early.

Who should do this course?

This is the perfect 'taster' for anyone who wants to discover sailing for the first time. This is the perfect introduction and can be the ideal way for you to begin your sailing journey, without having to commit to a full training course.

Course Outcome

Following the course, you will receive a completion certificate.

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
