Evening All,

A quick update on the winter XC21 season, we are 5 events down of the 8 event Brisbane XC series with Race #6 at Richlands this weekend. We are having a crack’in season so if you haven’t had a run yet or you haven’t registered for this Saturday’s event yet please do so by this Wednesday morning, We really want to have a strong showing for our club hosted events, any trouble please email President@toowongharriers.org.au , Also if you can assist on the day we need your help to course marshal, so come on down to CJ Greenfield Reserve at Richlands,1.00pm this Saturday.

State XC Relays

Next weekend (19/06) is the State XC Relay Championship, I believe this is one of the best days on the annual athletics calendar, It’s a very relaxed day where we come together as a club, wear the royal blue colours and everyone has a lot of fun. So, if you haven’t nominated as yet (don’t worry the club pays the team nomination fees and organises the teams) please send an email stating your interest by this Friday at the latest and we will find a team for you to run in. The more people that register an interest the more teams we can run. Let’s continue to be the club that all other clubs wish they were! Email Seniors@toowongharriers.org.au

New Running Kit

Member’s please be aware the new active running T’s are in stock as of this Friday, along with the new Athletics running Cap and Competition Running Singlets in Women’s and Men’s / Unisex cut.

If you have not seen or ordered your new running kit please go to the club portal and have a gander at what we have put together with local Queensland performance clothing manufacturer SCODY https://www.revolutionise.com.au/toowongharriers/shop/

And the other exciting piece of club news is that IMPY sportswear is coming, with our women’s range of athletics kit just in time for the summer season. We will keep you informed when the new women’s styles arrive.

Training & Other Club News

  • High Jump – Fosbury Flop Assessments, Any of our younger members whom are looking to do High Jump (Fosbury Flop) in their school sports, may need a letter from a recognised high jump coach/club that confirms there competency at this event to allow them to compete. We will be running a assessment clinic (not coaching) this Sunday at Jack Cook Park from 10.00-11.00am with our Club High Jump Coach Ms Joanne Lane to go through the Athletics Australia Assessments for any athletes that require this competency assessment.
  • The Renovations in full swing at Jack Cook Memorial Park Club working Bee’s over the next two Sunday 13th & 20th June, from 9.00am onwards, there is plenty of Painting and field maintenance to be performed as we continue to upgrade facilities.

One final very important note, this is about a proposal for a new 900 student Primary School for the Indooroopilly / Taringa catchment. One of the proposed sites for this new school is the Toowong Bowls Club utilising Perin Park Precient including Jack Cook Memorial Park as an activities space for the childeren.

The club has been caught off guard by this proposal as no consultation has been engeged with the club over this. Obviously we are all very concerned over the effect this would have on our home and the broader community if it was to go ahead. All I would ask at this stage is that members keep there ears to the ground and keep informed with all that is occuring. We need to have a voice in this process as a key Stakeholder in this community.

Please Complete the Department’s survey. (noting that there is no reference to Jack Cook in the maps or content of the survey). Nothwithstanding this, we would appreciate that you express your views, in the free text at the end, 'that use of Jack Cook park as playground could significantly (negatively) affect Toowong Harriers Athletics Club and Facilities that we have developed over the last 40 years. Survey Link here: https://survey.qed.qld.gov.au/n/axGhQzD

  • Attend one of the the Department’s consultation drop in sessions:

    • Wednesday 16 June 2021 (2.30 – 4.30pm) – Heroes Avenue side of Perrin Park – near former Toowong Bowls Club, Toowong
  • We will keep you all abreast of this issue continues to evolve.
