Learn to sail at Albert Park Lake. Our fun programme for children aged 11-17 uses our Pacer dinghies. Get out in the fresh air, learn new skills and have fun in a boat!
This is a new programme for the Boatshed in 2024 which we expect will evolve over time as the participants get more confidence and experience.
Inclusions
- Sailing program with qualified Australian Sailing instructors.
- Fun on-water and off-water activities.
- Use of The Boatshed's Pacers and lifejackets.
Course Cost
$50 per session or $450 for the term

More Information
The Home Education Sailing Group is an introduction to fun sailing and is all about building confidence on the water for those just starting out and building skills for those who have a bit more sailing experience. The kids start by sailing in threes. It’s a great way to meet new friends with kids having the chance to sail with others in their group. As they build confidence they can graduate to sailing in pairs and further building their skills.

Programme Prerequisites
- Water confident
- 11-17 years-old
- able to follow instructions
What is taught?
By the end of the 10 weeks, the participants should be able to:
- Steer with tiller extension under towing/paddling power
- Tie a figure 8 knot, round turn and two half hitches
- Tack (push turn)
- Gybe (pull turn)
- Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
- Sail with tiller extension
- Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat
