Welcome to Te Waka Dragons!

Te Waka Taniwha (Te Waka – the boat, Taniwha - dragon in Maori) was formed in 2000 by a group of friends wanting to revel in the sport's social nature. Originally located on the Gold Coast, the club moved north to Newstead, Brisbane in 2002. Since then training has been based on the iconic Brisbane River with crews departing from the public boat ramp at Albion. In 2007, the club was renamed Te Waka Dragons in recognition of its growing diversity.

Today, the club is proud to be one of the top teams not only in Queensland but also nationally and internationally, competing at an international level in 2012, 2014, 2018 and soon again in 2024.
