December Update: Mardi Gras prep in full swing!

Whats Happened:

INTRA Finals 

S6 of INTRA was taken out by Alex B’s UF-HO’s! Proving themselves and the hoes in the club. Congratulations to all the players and captains, another season down with much experience gained. The coaches are so impressed with the level of skill and commitment to the competition and we look forward to seeing you again next season. More details to be released after bootcamp in the new year.

Finally huge appreciation goes to our volunteers that help make INTRA run every week, from the captains, table duties and pack up, a big thank you to everyone that helps out. Many hands make light work!

Financial Hardship Policy

Stingers Executive Committee is pleased to share our new Financial Hardship Policy which is published in our Member Zone. We appreciate the enormous benefits that sport provides to individuals and the Club strives to provide access for all to participate in our community. Already on offer to all members are payment plans for membership fees. If you are experiencing financial hardship and wish to seek financial support, please see the Financial Hardship Policy or speak with the Treasurer, Josh Sprake (treasurer@sydneystingers.org.au).

Whats On:

We have your January and February social calendar all sorted out, it’s a busy time for us and the start of the new year is jam packed with Stingers events. More details will be released for the below events as we get closer, so please keep an eye on Facebook and emails. 

January Boot Camp 

Boot Camp will be run Sunday 7th, 14th, 21st January with the Bootylympics to be held on Sunday 4th February, all at Gunyama. Bootylympics is open to all club members to play in a tournament with our new Boot Campers, for now save the date and look out for sign ups in January. 

Stingers Needs You! We are looking for someone to support Caitlyn (Recruitment Manager) and organise the Bootylympics event. End of Year Awards Night

Ever wonder what your teammates look like with clothes on? Get your Stingers year off to a great start by coming to our End of Year Awards on 13th January. This is a night to come together and hang out without the usual scent of chlorine, the red eyes, the constrictive polo attire, and of course, the suuuper sexy caps in favour of pumping up the HEAT to celebrate each other and the successes of queer water polo the best way we know how, PARTTYY. Grab your tickets, and we’ll see you looking like HOT STUFF. 

IGLA 2024 Buenos Aires Expression of Interest

Next years IGLA will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina during the countries Gay Pride Celebrations. Events will be held on 5 - 9th November, with planning for the Stingers Tour happening now. Our resident travel guru Alex Lau recommends trying to lock in flights by the end of January to get the best sort of price you can. Please fill in this form if you're thinking about attending. 

Melbourne Grudge Match

Sign up here if you're planning on heading down to Australia’s 2nd best city for the Grudge Match on 10th February. Midsumma events are on Sunday 11th.

Stingers Beach 4’s 

Save the Date! Beach 4’s is back on 17th February. We know you don’t need any encouragement to get into your cozzies and off to the beach, so start getting your team together for the best event on the Mardi Gras calendar!

Mardi Gras Parade

In case you missed it, Expressions of Interest are open for the Mardi Gras Parade are now open. Based on the Expressions of Interest, if there are not enough spots for everyone to enter, we’ll devise a ballot system to make it as fair as possible.

Stingers On Tour

Keep an eye out for your teammates as Stinger set out for world domination! We'll be battling it out in the pool and attending these events:

• Melbourne Grudge Match 11th February 2024 (during Midsumma)
• Beach 4’s, 17th February, 2024.
• IGLA in Buenos Aires, 5-9th November 2024 (coincides with Gay Pride events in Argentina)

Fun Fact:

Sir Alexander Fleming, a Scottish physician who won the Nobel Prize for discovering Penicillin, played waterpolo for London Scottish Regiment before going on to studying medicine.
