Published Sat 07 Dec 2024

Whats Happened:

Ordinary Exec

Introducing our shiny new Ordinary Executives Fletch, Ben W and Fabs! The team are appointed for a 1 year term to assist the club and General Executive with the running of on and off the water activities. We are looking forward to working with you!

Whats On:

End of Year Awards - DATE CHANGE

How good is a lager on a fresh lawn in the sun? Time for curls for the girls at Erko Bowls. Bring the dependents, four legged or 2, furry as a bear or bare as a baby's bottom. Stingers will be hosting our End of Year awards on Sunday 2nd February, from 1pm, til we get kicked out.

If you want to check your aim, a bowl is $20 per person.  Finger food will be provided, or in house restaurant NO NAMES ITALIAN for those needing some carbs for the game. This event is FREE, but please register via RevSport so we know how many we have.

Training Sign Ups

As we wind down for the year, if you are attending training as December and January run along, please sign up so coaches can plan for numbers and make adjustments as needed. Sessions may be combined or cancelled if there are not enough numbers are booked in.

Beach 4s - Save the Date

Hold the date! We’ll be hosting our Beach 4s Competition with a tentative date of Sunday 23rd February at Gay Icon, Manly Beach.  Date and location may be changed due to weather conditions. We’ll let you know more details in the new year.

Grudge Match

Next Grudge match will be hosted by the Tritons on April 5th. The weather is already preparing us for Brisbane.

Complaints Process

Recently the Exec together with the Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) Stef Jelic has updated our complaints process. You can find the document here in the members zone of RevSport.

Stingers is a place for all members to feel welcome and respected. If an issue potential arises whilst participating in a Stingers event, we first encourage you to attempt to manage the situation yourself. This can be helpful for minor or accidental issues that can be quickly resolved. After this, if you can not find a resolution, or the issue has greater weight, you can contact the MPIO (mpio@sydneystingers.org.au) to discuss further. If you are still unhappy with the outcome you can contact a member of Exec directly.

Mardi Gras Draws Near

Preparations for next years Mardi Gras are full steam ahead. Please keep an eye out soon for tickets or if you can volunteer your time and skills to us. Fair Day will be on 16th Feb, followed by the Parade on 1st March.

Swim Set

December Focus - At the cliff of Its Almost Over For The Year, keep pushing, keep going and keep swimming. A midday swim in the sun is a cure for a fair few ails. Distance is the focus though December and January, a nice and consistent pace to keep the arms ticking over.

Total Time: 50min (with rest)

Total Distance: 2100m

Warm Up: 100 Free, 100 IM, 100 Free

Main Set:

4x50m - 25 hard, 25 easy - 1:00

6x100m - Free - 1:45

4x200m - Free - 3:30

Cool down: 200m

Notes:

  • Adjust the times to suit you, but still aim to push yourself. Suggestions:
    • A bit easier: add 5 to 10s on the suggested times per 50m.
    • A bit harder: minus 5 to 10s on the suggested times per 50m or add 2 more distance intervals (e.g where it says 6x100m do 8 of them.)
    • 50m Pool: add 5sec per 50m
  • Send your team a selfie with you at the pool after your set! Be the fitspo to my DMs :)
  • Splashproof and reuse the set - write it up with crayon (or pencil) on waxy baking paper, pat dry and keep in your bag for next time.
