Aussie Stingers and Sharks in Paris
The Aussie Stingers and Sharks are celebrating, with well earnt ham-and-cheese croissants, after another dam impressive Olympic campaign. Upsetting the bigger guns of the game in starting rounds, the Aussies proved themselves a thrilling watch, consistently offering a strong resistance to opponents attacks and shooting with speed and awe. Friend of ours, Bec Rippon coached the Aussie Stingers at the games to their best result since 2000. The semis saw us play the behemoth that is the USA, who’ve medaled at every Olympics since Sydney, ending time at 8 all. As the penalty shoot out entered its 6th round, Aussie keeper Gabi Palmer blocked the shot that earned the Stingers a guaranteed medal in the grand final game. A mere fraction of a second to save, but a lifetime of training to execute. In the end the gold was grabbed by the strength of Spain, despite the might and force of the Aussies. A phenomenal achievement from our team to collect themselves silver, we wait with keen eyes for your next tournament!
Aussie Sharks bit chunks into the competition, making a convincing win over the eventual gold medalists Serbia early in the group stage, advancing to the quarter finals. The tense play against the Americans gave no clear frontrunner, the game anyone’s to take, as the teams went tit for tat to deadlock in the 3rd, again in the 4th. Team USA only barely shot us out in penalties, ending the Olympic run for the Sharks, who placed 8th on the ladder.

Seeking Mardi Gras Parade Coordinator (or Co-Coordinator)!
Are you keen to help show the world who we are, have heaps of fun, and lead us as we strut our stuff up Oxford Street? We are seeking a Mardi Gras Parade Coordinator to manage the club's parade entry for 2025, and would also love to hear from anyone who would be interested in being a Co-Coordinator, potentially sharing the role with a 2024 team member.
Mardi Gras Parade is one of the club's biggest events each year, providing us both broad exposure in the community and a rewarding experience for club members. The Mardi Gras Parade Coordinator is the brains and braun behind this operation, leading our application with Mardi Gras, and bringing together and leading a team (many hands make light work!) to develop our theme, music, and choreo and organise rehearsals, swimmers and decor to look fabulous on the day!
It's a great opportunity to give back to the club and help us keep doing the great work we do. There's some work very soon on the initial application (due September 13th), but most of the work happens in December/January/February in the lead up to the Parade. You'll have broad support of the club and Exec, and excellent materials and know-how from previous entries to rely on. If you're interested in the above or have questions, please reach out to Tom (secretary@sydneystingers.org.au).
