April 3X3 Basketball Tournament

Our April 3X3 Basketball Tournament is a fun, social LGBTQIA+ community-run basketball 3x3 competition. Five teams, two hours, one winner. Players of all skill levels and all genders are welcome to compete in a low-pressure, inclusive environment.

How it works

• Everyone arrives and warms up together for approximately 10 minutes before the game begins.
• Players sign up as individuals and are organised into up to 5 teams of between 3–4 on the night - either randomly or to ensure balance.
• Every team plays each other once, with one match as a bye. The top two teams play a grand final, and teams 3 and 4 play for 3rd place.
• The tournament is self-refereed.

Commitment

There is no ongoing commitment. You only play when you book in.

Location

Green Square Public School, 3 Joynton Ave, Zetland. A short walk from Green Square Station.

Game rules

• Games run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
• Each game is 11 minutes long with no clock stoppages.
• The team with the most points at the end wins.
• After a point, the team that was defending gets the ball back.
• Before the match starts, a player is selected from one team to "shoot to start" (meaning if they make the shot, their team gets to start the game with possession).
• If the game is tied, each team chooses three players and each takes one shot from the free-throw line. Whichever team has more points wins. If still tied after these free throws, the game moves to golden point.
• The game is self-refereed. Players are expected to call their own fouls honestly and respectfully. Over-calling or fishing for fouls is discouraged as it takes away from the flow and spirit of the game.
• Mixed rules apply: women and gender-diverse players may not be blocked or physically engaged while in the act of shooting.

Fees

• FREE for members this April
• $10 for non-members
• Maximum 20 players.

Inclusivity

This is a community-run LGBTQIA+ basketball program. All genders and all skill levels are welcome. The focus is on respect, fair play and creating a space where everyone feels safe to participate.

Weather policy

The court is undercover, but extreme weather can still affect play. If a session is cancelled due to weather, all players will be refunded.
