A double header this weekend proved successful for the Sydney North Men’s Premier team, coming up strong with 2 wins. The first against an Endeavour team that proved a difficult opponent for last year’s squad, with each team taking a 3-0 sweep over the other in their two matches. To start the 2024 season though, SNV would follow the trend and win in straight sets. New addition to the squad Feu'u Faleafaga (De), who was on last years Endeavour squad triumphed in a so-called revenge game, as well as debutant Felix Birke beginning his SNV career with strong blocking and scoring from the outside. Sunday’s game saw two undefeated teams facing off, both with strong momentum from the early part of the season in what could be a finals preview. Acer’s, after winning the Reserves division last year, have a strong roster with many AVSL and Canadian College committed players and their high level of play proved too strong for defending champions Illawarra and runners up from last year UTS. They continued that form winning the first two sets. However, SNV fought back strong in the 3rd set. Strong attacking from Ethan Garrett and Sean Bosschieter overwhelmed the Acer’s block and defence, allowing for the SNV comeback to be set in motion. A resilient SNV team with hustle play after hustle play and capitalising off every opportunity given to them managed to win the 4th set 30-28 and force a fifth set. This fifth set would also go to overtime with Harrison Walsh coming up with big plays at the net to cap off the SNV reverse sweep and keep the Men’s Premier team undefeated through the first 3 weeks of the 2024 SVL season.
