Master Sam Morgan

I have been training martial arts for over 18 years. Starting at age 12 with Hapkido under the instruction of Mitchell Wetherell and earning my black belt at 18.

I was very attracted to the variety and complexity that Hapkido offered. With dynamic and physically demanding classes focusing on all aspects of martial arts including striking, throwing and grappling, joint locks and takedowns, sparring, weaponry and a strong foundation of respect, discipline, integrity and enhancing ones own life through the principles and teachings of a traditional martial art.

After achieving my black belt, I was curious to explore greater depths of my training through learning some other styles. This led me to training in Brazlian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Olympic Wrestling, Boxing and Judo. Unfortunately, I was unable to continue consistency with these styles but I found it very beneficial learning some basics and fundamentals from each system which transferred very well into my Hapkido training and instructing.

I have been very fortunate to train with some exceptional martial artists and great people throughout my years. In 2011 I was lucky enough to be part of the Australian team which competed in an international tournament held in Korea. During this time we had the privilage to learn from extraordinary Masters which was an unforgettable experience. I took away some very valuable lessons that helped to deepen my understanding of Hapkido immensely.

In recent years I have been involved in teaching Hapkido seminars locally, on multiple occasions in Byron Bay and more recently to our AHA club in Perth. These trips and experiences are always very fun and fulfilling, each time giving me the opportunity to strengthen my understanding and application of Hapkido whilst maintaining my passion for the art.

In 2018 I achieved my 4th Degree Black Belt, a huge honour and very rewarding moment in my martial arts career.

As an instructor, my goal is to continue the progression, evolution and development of myself and my students. Always striving for improvements in all aspects of not only Hapkido and martial arts training but in how we approach life itself.
