BWPI 2023/2024: SCWP Celebrates Success Across All Teams

Published Mon 25 Mar 2024

SCWP is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of all our teams at the recent Brisbane Water Polo Incorporated (BWPI) competition. It has been an exhilarating journey filled with challenges, triumphs, and remarkable displays of skill and sportsmanship across multiple age groups.

First and foremost, a huge congratulations to our Sunshine Coast U18 boys for clinching the Gold Medal at the BWPI competition. Their victory is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and exceptional teamwork throughout the season. Congratulations to Byron, Fynnian, Ernie, Giacomo, Hamish, Harrison, Harry, Hugo, James G, James M, Liam, Leo, Smith, Zac H, and Zac M for their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence. Their achievement is a source of immense pride for our entire club and community.

A special mention goes out to our coaches Glenn and Matt for their leadership poolside, and to Leo, Harrison, and Smith, who concluded their BWPI adventures with this remarkable achievement. As these three players have aged out of competition, their commitment, dedication, and respect for each other were evident throughout the season. Their victory, bringing home The Gold, marks the end of an era and leaves behind memories that will last a lifetime. We commend them for their fabulous spirit and spirited play, leaving a lasting impression on Sunshine Coast Water Polo.

In addition to our U18 success, our U14, U15, and U16 boys teams have also demonstrated tremendous skill and determination throughout the competition. Despite facing challenges, including injuries and scheduling conflicts, our teams showcased incredible resilience, determination, and sportsmanship.

Our U14 Sunshine Coast Warriors boys gave it their all in a tough quarter-final match against the Mantas, despite playing with a depleted team. Although victory eluded us this time, the team has shown incredible growth in skill and confidence throughout the season. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the dedicated parents, volunteers, and team managers who tirelessly supported our athletes each week, making the commitment to drive to Brisbane weekly. It truly takes a village, and we are grateful for your unwavering support.

The U15 boys faced hurdles with several players missing due to injury and swimming title clashes. Despite this, our team led by Coach Georgina showcased remarkable resilience and sportsmanship. Although victory slipped away against Mantas Blue, our young athletes fought valiantly and showed incredible spirit.

Our U16 boys put up an impressive display of water polo in the semi-final showdown against the formidable UQ Barras. With a promising start and leading 2-0 at quarter time, it seemed like we were destined for the finals. However, despite facing exclusions against us, our boys fought relentlessly, falling short by 3 goals at the final siren. Nonetheless, their unwavering determination shines through, and they should hold their heads high.

Furthermore, our U15 and U16 girls' teams (combined with River City) have shown remarkable skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Despite facing tough opponents, they have demonstrated resilience and teamwork, setting a strong foundation for future success.

As we wrap up the BWPI 2023/2024 season, we reflect on the journey, the lessons learned, and the friendships forged. We are immensely proud of our athletes and coaches across all age groups and genders and look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for Sunshine Coast Water Polo.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey. Here's to many more successes in the future!
