| Alpine Director Update - January 2025 |
Dear Alpine Community,
Well, it’s a new year and with that brings lots of new possibilities for all our athletes to challenge themselves both on and off snow to achieve new heights. We are in the middle of the race calendar and have athletes competing across the globe.
Coming up this week we will see Greta Small competing in Garmisch, Germany, at the World Cup Downhill and Super G events on January 25th and 26th. On the men’s side we will have Louis Muhlen-Schulte and Hugh McAdam taking on the classic Kitzbuehel, Austria, World Cup Slalom event on January 26th. Louis and Hugh will follow that on with World Cup competition under the lights in Schladming, Austria. With Louis competing in both the Giant Slalom and Slalom night events January 28th and 29th, Hugh will be competing on the 29th in the night Slalom.
National Ski Cross Team athletes Kyra Wheatley, Liam Michael and Emerson Facer will be competing this weekend in Reiteralm, Austria, at a Europa Cup ski cross event. Liam will then tackle the Veysonnaz, Switzerland, World Cup Ski Cross event on January 30th through February 2nd.
Looking forward towards February we will have the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships taking place with the Australian Team announcement imminent, so keep your eyes on our Snow Australia social media channels. Also, at the beginning of February we will see a group of Australian children’s aged athletes, represented from across our clubs, take on the Alpe CImbra FIS Children’s races in Folgaria, Italy, testing themselves against U14 and U16 athletes from across Europe.
I want to extend my best to National Alpine Ski Team members Madison Hoffman and Samantha Gaul who have both suffered season ending knee injuries. I hope you both have smooth and speedy recoveries, and I know the community at large wishes you all the best and is pulling for your return to skiing. On a positive note, this month has seen the return to snow for NAST athlete Harry Laidlaw after a 4-month hiatus from skiing following an injury suffered while training in New Zealand this August.
All the best,
Shawn

Snow Australia remains the single point of entry for Australian skiers competing internationally in FIS sanctioned events.
To compete overseas in FIS sanctioned competitions there are a number of prequisites that must be completed before you can be included on an official entry form. Please view the summary information below and visit the Competing Overseas page on the website to make sure you understand your obligations.
1. Membership
To compete overseas you must be an Alpine International Racer member in your respective discipline. This ensures you have the correct level of membership and are registered with FIS.
If you are competing in FIS sanctioned Children's Alpine races you will need to be an Alpine Club Racer.
2. Competition Insurance
It is a FIS requirement that Snow Australia ensures all its competitors hold insurance that covers competitive skiing and meets, at a minimum, FIS International Competition Rules: 212.3
We have been working with our insurance providers to confirm policies ahead of the northern winter. Please visit the Competing Overseas page for the latest information on available policies.
3. Expression of Interest & Coach Authorisation Letter
To compete in FIS sanctioned races overseas you must complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form and submit it to Snow Australia (entries@snow.org.au).
To simplify the entry process for FIS level Alpine races internationally, Snow Australia may provide a coach authorisation letter to approved coaches. To apply for this authorisation letter, coaches must apply direclty to Snow Australia. More information here
For any questions regarding EOI's please contact entries@snow.org.au or vist the Competing Overseas webpage. |
