Skate Australia is inviting roller derby athletes from across Australia to try out for National Team selection for the 2026 World Skate Games. Selected athletes will represent Australia at the World Skate Games in Paraguay in October 2026.
To try out, athletes are invited to:
1.Attend in-person sessions at Mt Warren Sports Centre:
In your submission you should clearly state if you are trying out for a position on the Men's or Women's Skate Australia Roller Derby Team and if you are applying for:
Jammer
Pivot
Blocker
Willing to be selected to other positions
To mirror what the coaches will be looking for at in-person tryouts, please send links to footage demonstrating the following:
Excellent solo derby skills
Excellent teamwork skills
Working effectively in walls - strong focus on 2 wall scenarios and some tripods at speed
Effective offence - strong focus on rolling offence execution and communication
25 laps in 5 minutes (or anything that will allow the coaches to witness you playing/skating through fatigue)
Evidence of your ability to adapt to or implement strategy mid game
Ability to effectively control pack speed through strategy and stopping techniques
Note that we will not have time to watch long videos to find you. Please do not link to whole games or tournaments, but short videos that specifically demonstrate the skills we are looking for. These can be clips from game play, or you may chose to create a new video at training or similar.
Understandably, it can be hard to capture all your passion, communication skills, and rule and strategy knowledge through video. You are welcome to submit an optional introductory video or statement to the coach in addition.
