Urban Rogaine
Event information
SCR Urban Rogaine event detail:
Rogaining is a sport that involves teams running or walking with the aim of navigating to checkpoints that are marked on a map. The aim is to get the most points, with checkpoints each worth a specified value. There is an overall time limit, but you are free to choose whichever checkpoints you want to visit and in whatever order. Generally, those that are harder to get to, or further away from the start/finish are worth the most points.
It can be a really fun event, working out where you want to go, getting a good sense of achievement when you navigate well and find out a little more about the area than you normally would.
Teams are made up of 2-5 people, so it can also be a nice social activity as well.
This Rogaine, being organised by Sapphire Coast Runners, is an Urban Rogaine (as opposed to rogaining in the bush) with checkpoints covering most of Merimbula, so there should be a lot of choice for where teams decide to go.
The time limit for the event is 3 hours (9am-12pm). You want to aim for the most points possible in that time. There is no penalty for stopping early. However, teams will lose points for every minute over time.
Check-in is at 8.30am, 30min before the 9am event start so that teams can collect your maps, get more information on how the event works, plan out which way you want to go,have time to ask any questions and receive the safety brief, before setting off at the start time.
Participants will need to bring a pen and if necessary, reading glasses. There are a number of water fountains, cafes, etc around town. However, you may want to carry your own water and snack. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are encouraged.
