Hi [[FIRST_NAME]],

May marks the shift out of the main sailing season, but there’s still plenty happening at Sandy Bay.

It’s been a big year on the water. From busy Saturdays and new faces joining the club, the 25/26 season has delivered exactly what SBSC is all about - progress, community, and a lot of time on the Derwent.

Even as racing winds down, we’re not stopping. Term 2 training is up and running, with registrations now open. If you’re new to sailing, this is the time to lean in - Term 3 is typically quieter due to the July/August weather, so now’s your window to build confidence and momentum.

A standout this season has been the number of sailors stepping onto bigger stages - state, national and international. That progression doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built on the effort of sailors, backed by coaches, volunteers and families who show up week after week to make it all work.

Next up - the SBSC AGM and Presentation Night on 23 May at the Derwent Sailing Squadron. Come along, celebrate the season, and be part of what’s next.  We especially would like to welcome our green fleeters to celebrate their journey this year!

SPONSORSHIP DRIVE

As a member of Sandy Bay Sailing Club, you already know what makes this place special — the community, the opportunities for our kids, and the time and effort that goes in behind the scenes. Sponsorship is one of the most impactful ways you can support the club’s future. Whether through your business or connections, helping secure sponsors directly contributes to better equipment, stronger programs, and more opportunities for our sailors. It’s a chance to give back, strengthen our club, and ensure SBSC continues to thrive for the next generation.

We also have opportunities to sponsor two major national regattas being held at the club this year - 2026 Australian School Team Racing Nationals in July and the 65th International Cadet Australian Championship in December/January.

If you or someone you know might be interested, please get in touch with committee member Shona Prior. Phone 0408004699 or email priorshona@gmail.com.  Our club prospectus is available HERE

VOLUNTEER CALL OUT

SBSC is run by volunteers and a big part of being a SBSC Member is pitching in to help run things.

Although getting out on the water for Saturday racing is a fantastic way to watch the action.  There are plenty of off season tasks that we also need help with.

We also have opportunities to help out with the behind the scenes work that makes the club tick including:

  • Risk Management and Compliance
  • Regatta/Event Planning
  • Facilities Maintenance
  • Grant research & writing

Please email our secretary, Sharon to assist with these tasks.

SBSC LEARN TO SAIL
  LEARN TO SAIL ROUND UP

LEARN TO SAIL ROUND UP
Across just two weeks over the recent school holidays, we delivered five learn to sail programs -Cadet Green Fleet, Tackers 1, Cadet Learn to Sail, Tackers 2 and Adult Learn to Sail 2 - resulting in 51 participants out on the water and experiencing sailing for the first time.

That’s a wonderful reminder of what SBSC does best. We’re not just running race days -we’re building the next generation of sailors and creating accessible, welcoming entry points into the sport. Programs like these are the foundation of long-term participation and growth, both for our club and for sailing more broadly. If you know someone keen to learn, we will be back in the September school holidays with more Learn to Sail opportunities!
