Sail our Way Discover Sailing Sundays @ SBSC – for girls aged 10 to 18

Sunday 11 October and Sunday 18 October 2026 10 am to 12:30pm

We invite girls aged between 10 - 18 to join these 'introduction to sailing' sessions at the Sandy Bay Sailing Club.

No sailing experience needed.

This course is subsidised through a Sail our Way grant from Australian Sailing.

Course cost inclusive of both sessions is only $45 or one session for $30.

Over the rwo days you will:

• Be introduced to the club and facilities
• Be briefed on sailing basics and safety equipment and procedures
• Learn about parts of a boat and how to rig it
• Launch and retrieve a boat from shore
• Sail a boat 
• Debrief and share your experiences with others
• Explore next steps in your sailing journey

The club will provide:

• Experienced instructors/coaches
• Safety equipment – PFDs and helmets
• Safety boat supervision on water
• Sailing dinghies
• Membership and pathways information
• Sunscreen

You provide:

• Sense of adventure, willingness to give it a go!
• Suitable attire - close fitting clothing that is able to get wet, footwear (wetsuit if you have one)
• Snacks, drink bottle
• Lunch

Discover Sailing Day – Come and Try Sailing!

Ever wondered what it’s like to go sailing? Join us for a Discover Sailing Day and experience the thrill of being on the water while exploring your local sailing club.

• No experience needed – just bring your sense of adventure
• Perfect for families, friends, and anyone curious about sailing
• Friendly club members will be there to welcome you and answer questions

Prerequisite: For safety reasons, participants must be confident in and around the water.

By the end of the day, you’ll have:

• Experienced sailing firsthand
• Discovered the fun and community spirit of your local club
• Learned about exciting courses, activities, and ways to keep sailing
