Calling for Expressions of Interest to join Australian Sailing’s Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group

Published Fri 30 May 2025

To celebrate National Reconciliation Week, Australian Sailing (AS) is embarking on the development of a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) as a positive and meaningful step towards Reconciliation. In establishing a RAP, AS commits to developing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, upholding respect for and value of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and traditions and providing greater opportunities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.

"Embarking on our first Reconciliation Action Plan is a significant and important step in our journey to honour and celebrate the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to land and sea," said Australian Sailing Acting CEO, Ben Callard. "We are committed to building genuine partnerships that enrich our sport and our communities.

"Reconciliation starts with listening, learning and taking meaningful action. We invite those with a passion for inclusion and respect to help shape a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are recognised, valued, and reflected across every level of our sport."

Implementing a RAP reflects our commitment as outlined in Australian Sailing’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy and Strategic Plan for 2032. It reinforces our broader dedication to fostering a safe, fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all.

Sailing is a sport that can proudly celebrate the diversity of our nation, and we are committed to ensuring all Australians feel a strong sense of belonging—both on and off the water.

As such, AS is calling for expressions of interest from suitable individuals to contribute to the AS RAP Working Group.
