This Course Will Cover
Preparation	Understands the importance of the correct fitting and wearing of lifejackets. Understands the importance of appropriate clothing and footwear.
Boats and Equipment	Has basic knowledge of sailing terms, can identify parts of a boat, rigging and sails. Can bend on, hoist, lower and stow sails.
Ropework	Can tie the following knots: figure of eight, bowline, round turn & two half hitches. Has basic knowledge of the use of sheets, halyards, winches, clutches, and cleats. Can coil and stow a rope.
Skills and Techniques	Understands the theory and basic principles of sailing including tacking and gybing. Has basic wind awareness. Can trim sails on all points of sail. Can tie up boat alongside using springs and mooring lines.
Safety and Emergencies	Understands the correct action to be taken to recover a man overboard. Understands the correct use of safety equipment on board. Is aware of hazards on board a boat and understands how to avoid them.
Sailing Theory	Has awareness of the basic rules of the road. Can maintain a continuous lookout.

Important Infomation: Our sailing academy does not offer refunds. However, we will be more than happy to be flexible with any cancellations from our end and find the best solution to reschedule your sailing session. 

Cancellations and Rebooking: Please note that courses cancelled up to 72 hours in advance by email will not incur a fee. However, cancellations made with less than 72 hours notice will be subject to a $75 charge (if you are sick, we will just need proof to waive this charge). 

Minimum Attendance Requirement: This course requires a minimum of 2 participants to proceed. If this number is not met, you may choose to either receive a full refund, or be rebooked for a future session at no extra cost.

What Should I Bring? We recommend suitable sports clothing, please consider the weather you may need a jacket or hat. Sailing equipment such as life jackets will be provided. It is also a good idea to bring a water bottle and snack. Food may be available for purchase in our Olympic Bar, its opening hours can be found on the RMYS Website.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a keelboat. Learn the basics, whilst staying relatively dry! All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Crewing completion certificate.
