This is a two-day course run on Elearning + Saturday 5th September 2026 from 9am - 5pm.

Important Infomation: Our sailing academy does not offer refunds. However, we will be more than happy to be flexible with any cancellations from our end and find the best solution to reschedule your sailing session.
Cancellations and Rebooking: Please note that courses cancelled up to 72 hours in advance by email will not incur a fee. However, cancellations made with less than 72 hours notice will be subject to a $75 charge (if you are sick, we will just need proof to waive this charge).
Minimum Attendance Requirement: This course requires a minimum of 2 participants to proceed. If this number is not met, you may choose to either receive a full refund, or be rebooked for a future session at no extra cost.
What Should I Bring? We recommend suitable sports clothing, please consider the weather you may need a jacket or hat. Sailing equipment such as life jackets will be provided. It is also a good idea to bring a water bottle and snack. Food may be available for purchase in our Olympic Bar, its opening hours can be found on the RMYS Website.

Course Overview
The Powerboat Handling (PBH) Certificate is achieved by completing two course components:

Powerboat Program Essential Skills e-learning – The online theory course must be completed before attending this Powerboat Handling face-to-face course.

Powerboat Handling face-to-face course– A one-day practical course focusing on boat handling, particularly in confined areas such as marinas and in challenging conditions like swell and waves. Participants will also gain a deeper understanding of engines, different types of craft, and navigation techniques during a passage.
Together, these components provide the knowledge and practical skills required to handle a powerboat safely and confidently.
In some instances, you can take your Powerboat Handling completion certificate to your State Maritime Regulator and gain the State Boat License.
Who should complete this course?
This course is designed for participants to develop their practical powerboat driving skills. Attaining this course is a component to the PBH certificate andthat is also a requirement for becoming a Powerboat, Dinghy and/or Windsurfing Instructor.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Powerboat Handling completion certificate.
