Course information
Start Sailing 2 is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to dinghy sailing for those who have completed Start Sailing 1. This course builds upon the skills learned during Start Sailing 1.
Course Inclusions
- 12 hours of tuition with an Australian Sailing-qualified Instructor
- Sailing dinghies and lifejackets
- The certificate will be emailed on the last day

Preparation |
Dress for the conditions including the right PFD, sunscreen, hat and footwear Use aids to determine the wind direction and strength |

Boats and Equipment |
Name the main parts of the boat Tie a ‘figure of 8’, ‘bowline’ and a ‘reef’ knot Boat and equipment care Name the main ‘points’ of sailing Rig and derig a boat with assistance |

Leave and return back to the beach Avoid other boats Recognise and get out of the ‘no go zone’ Reach around a figure of 8 and sausage courses Right a capsized boat Stop the boat and get it going again Sit on the side of the boat and face the sail Sail without kneeling Steer and control the mainsail at the same time Tack facing forward Best sails set for all points of sailing |

Identify dangerous situations in and around the marina Recover crew in a ‘man over board’ situation |

Important Infomation: Our sailing academy does not offer refunds. However, we will be more than happy to be flexible with any cancellations from our end and find the best solution to reschedule your sailing session.
Cancellations and Rebooking: Please note that courses cancelled up to 72 hours in advance by email will not incur a fee. However, cancellations made with less than 72 hours notice will be subject to a $75 charge (if you are sick, we will just need proof to waive this charge).
Minimum Attendance Requirement: This course requires a minimum of 4 participants to proceed. If this number is not met, you may choose to either receive a full refund, or be rebooked for a future session at no extra cost.
What Should I Bring? We recommend suitable sports clothing, please consider the weather you may need a jacket or hat. Sailing equipment such as life jackets will be provided.More infomation. It is also a good idea to bring a water bottle and snack. Food may be available for purchase in our Olympic Bar, its opening hours can be found on the RMYS Website.

Course Overview
This course equips participants with boat rigging knowledge and sailing skills to sail a dinghy on their own.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident, and the skills and knowledge gained in Start Sailing 1.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who have completed Start Sailing 1 and are wanting to learn and continue to develop their fundamental sailing skills.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Start Sailing 2 completion certificate.
