This Dinghy Sailing 1 course will be held on Saturday 26th April & 3rd May 2025 and is suitable for participants with little or no sailing experience.

• 12 hrs tuition with Australian Sailing qualified Instructor.
• Sailing dinghies and lifejackets.

Start Sailing 1 is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to Dinghy sailing for complete beginners. It includes an introduction to fundamental boat handling skills and essential safety knowledge. 

Topics covered include the basics of:

• Clothing and safety equipment 
• Parts of the boat
• Rigging (setting the boat up)
• Steering
• Sail control
• Speed control
• Launch and recovery
• Capsize recovery
• Towing
• Sailing rules

Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate.
