Kings Day 2 Summary

Published Sun 27 Sep 2026

Day 2 of the 132nd South Australian Rifle Association Kings Prize delivered another strong day of competition at Lower Light Rifle Range, with competitors taking on the 700-metre and 800-metre stages of the Kings programme.

The day began with the Last Shot tribute for Jim Close, led by Phoenix Target Rifle Club, before competitors moved into the day’s shooting programme. The schedule then featured Match 16 at 700 metres, followed by the Richards-Mousley Memorial Match at 800 metres and the final 800-metre match of the day.

The longer-range stages tested competitors’ concentration, wind-reading and consistency, with close results across Target Rifle, F-Class and Sporter categories. A standout performance came from Mark Barletta of Postal & Railways Rifle Club, who recorded a perfect 50.10 in the 15-shot Match 18 at 800 metres in the Sporter category.

Congratulations to the Kings Day 2 Aggregate medallists, led by Christopher Schwebel in Target Rifle A Grade, Richard Halek in Target Rifle B Grade, Andrew Hall in F Standard A, Cameron Whant in F Open, Marty Kelley in F/TR, and John Mammoliti in Sporter Production/Open.

The Day 2 Aggregate recognised consistent shooting across Matches 16, 17 and 18 — the 700-metre stage and the two 800-metre stages. Congratulations also to all silver and bronze medallists:

  • Target Rifle A: Christopher Schwebel, Duncan Muller and Shane Blanch.

  • Target Rifle B: Richard Halek, Jeffrey Dayman and Lewis Pinyon.

  • F Standard A: Andrew Hall, John Habets and Graham Crowe.

  • F Open: Cameron Whant, Karen Conlon and Stuart Braund.

  • F/TR: Marty Kelley, Trent Haines and Sudyon Mohajir-Maddison.

  • Sporter Production/Open: John Mammoliti, Nathan Mann and Rob Staley.

A highlight of the afternoon presentations was the acknowledgement of Kerryn Neale and her continued support of the Richards-Mousley Memorial Trophies. These trophies honour the Richards-Mousley family’s longstanding connection with rifle shooting in South Australia and remain an important part of the Kings Prize tradition. The Richards-Mousley Memorial Trophy was awarded across the F Class Standard A, F Class Open, F/TR and Sporter Day 2 aggregate categories.

Thank you once again to the competitors, range officers, markers, scorers, volunteers, kitchen crew, sponsors and supporters who contributed to another successful day at the range.

The Championships now move into the final day of the Kings, with two 900-metre matches to be contested before the major aggregate awards and final presentations. Good luck to all competitors for the final day of the 132nd Kings Prize.
