The Keelboat Skills Program has been developed by Royal Geelong Yacht Club to create a pathway between learn to sail courses into further courses and casual sailing and racing out of our yacht club.

This program is run on RGYC's club keelboats called RS21s. Our aim is to create a welcoming environment and assist new members and new sailors with entering the club.

The skills program offers sessions following the completion of the required course. The sessions we run are based around Start Crewing, Start Helming and Start Skippering and allow people who have completed the course to continue working on those skills.

These sessions are designed for graduates of a RGYC Keelboat Learn to Sail course, you must have passed the stated course level to be accepted into the session.

Start Helming Graduates:

- Helming Practice

- Tacking and Gybing

- Sailing around a course

Start Skippering Graduates:

- Boat Handling

- Safety and Emergencies as Helm

- Racing Theory

The program also offers opportunities for sailors to meet other sailors and create networks around the club. By joining in sessions with the Skills Development Program you will be invited to meet and greets as well as talks and presentations that can be run by members, instructors, coaches, motivational speakers and high-performance sports people.

Session cancellations may be caused due to illness, weather, or other factors. All participants will be notified 2 days prior to the session if it will not go ahead via email. For on the day cancellations participants will be notified via phone call and email. The person must register with the correct phone number and email address to be eligible for a refund.

In the email about the cancellation the participants will be given the option to wait for another session to be set up by the Education and Training Coordinator or they will be able to get a refund excluding fees.
