Coaching is an integral part of our junior sailing program at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club (RFBYC). We recognise our coaches play a crucial role in assisting with the positive development of our young sailors. In addition, coaches help to create a safe and fun learning environment for junior sailing. This is our priority.

Our Coaching Program is comprehensive, accommodating multiple fleets on a weekly basis. The Coaching budget is currently a generous $100,000+.  This figure has steadily grown to this level over recent years as participation numbers have increased. To help offset some of the costs involved in running a coaching program for our junior and youth sailors, the implementation of a coaching fee was agreed by Sailing and General Committee.

Fleet training schedule is as follows (note earlier finish time for autumn term):

• Monday – ILCA (1600 – 1830)
• Wednesday – 29ers & Junior Double Handers (1600 – 1830)
• Wednesday - Windsurf & WindFoil (1600 - 1830)
• Friday – Optimists & O’pen Skiff (Intermediate/Open 1600 – 1830)
• Friday – Youth Development (all classes welcome) (1600 – 1830)

Any short notice changes to the above days/times will be notified via the Teams App.  For instructions on how to download the Team App, please click here.  In the event of inclement weather, in most cases the session will go ahead with onshore activities implemented.

Students involved in coaching sessions are also welcome to join in Sunday racing in the Intermediate and Open fleets.

Coaching occurs every week during term time apart from long weekends/public holidays.  We break for school holidays. 

Coaching Fee Criteria:

• Fees for weekly coaching sessions will be split by terms.  Each term's fee is $100, which covers all coaching sessions for that term (You can attend multiple fleet sessions). This will be charged to your member account following the term.
• New members to the fleet will be eligible to attend up to 2 complimentary coaching sessions before a fee is applicable.  Members transferring from one fleet to another who have already paid will not be charged again.
