Course Overview.

Fee $300pp.
Late Fee $60pp after 13/9.
* Please note that a payment gateway fee of 2% + $1.60 applies to all online transactions.

This course is aimed at children aged 7-12 years old who have passed Tackers 2, and starts building foundational skills for racing. 

Course Prerequisites

  • Water confident
  • 7-12 years-old.
  • Passed Tackers 2 skills.

What you need.

Clothing for sailing in August.

Wetsuit(buy online second hand on Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree)

Wetsuit boots covering ankles(surf shop or above).

Hat (or beanie in cold weather).

*Thermal underwear top - (polypropylene) thin long sleeve top you can buy in any outdoor hiking/snowsports shop.

Light weight water proof/breathable seam taped jacket.

Clothing for hot weather sailing.(26-36 degrees)

Shorts.

Wetsuit boots.

hat.

Rash top long sleeves to protect against sun burn. (Buy at any surf shop)

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who have completed Tackers 2 level and wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing on and off the water.

Once sailors can confidently demonstrate the above competencies they can move into they can move up to our Junior Development Group.

 


Course Overview
This course aims to build on skills learned in Tackers 2 and focuses on advanced sailing skills through games and adventures on the water.

  • Skills, knowledge and experience gained in Tackers 2

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who have completed Tackers 2.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 3 course, the participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the correct method and understand the theory of roll tacking and gybing
  • Stopping the boat in a confined areas for a period of time
  • Sail backwards
  • Understand the theory behind gybing and can demonstrate the action downwind
  • Show a sound knowledge of the five essentials:
    • Centreboard position
    • Boat trim
    • Boat balance
    • Course made good
    • Sail trim
  • Start and finish races on a triangle and trapezoid course
  • Always use tactical mark roundings in races

You will gain your Tackers 3 completion certificate.
