Only seven boats contested Races 11-15 of the Port Macquarie Sailing Club’s Sprint Series today in a nice 9-10 knot easterly, but it was the Stella and Death Defying Too day with the two fighting over first place in each race.

With few entrants jostling on the start line, one start for both cats and monos was deemed safe and two laps planned for each race.

For the first race, everyone made a good start except for Jim Kerrison and Deb Stening still on the beach launching Death Defying Too as the race started. Tony Kuhn on Stella and Terry Howard in Flying Dragon were first to reach the first mark, but some masterful kite work had Death Defying Too carving up the fleet and breathing down Stella’s stern. First race results were: Stella, Death Defying Too, Scott Witchard on Hummer, Steve Bohlsen in Interceptor, Martina Holt in Spellbound, Dave Winter on Spica, and Flying Dragon.

In the second race, Hummer got stuck in a hole just before the start, Death Defying Too and Stella were close around the course, but Stella made it to the finish line first. Hummer and Interceptor kept close in the middle of the fleet, but Interceptor came in third. Flying Dragon, Spellbound and Spica fought it out for the remaining places and eventually finished in that sequence.

Again, the third race was close between Death Defying Too and Stella, but this time Stella was relegated to second place. Hummer finished third followed by Spellbound, Interceptor, Spica, and Flying Dragon.

After a short break, a couple buoys were moved, and race 4 got underway. The competition between Stella and Death Defying Too continued with Stella taking the win. Hummer came in third, and Interceptor decided to take on a third lap resulting in last placing. Flying Dragon was fourth followed by Spellbound, Spica and, eventually, Interceptor.

Stella took line honours again for the fifth and last race of the day. Hummer sailed well to take second followed by Death Defying Too, Spica, Interceptor, Flying Dragon and Spellbound.
