Summer Series Race 7 + BBQ
Details
Event information
It was a day of memories for Port Macquarie Sailing Club members on Sunday. Starting early with ANZAC day ceremonies in various locations across the region, and then gathering at the clubhouse for the last race of the season and pausing yet again to wonder at the good fortune to be here today in the lucky country.
An outgoing tide and 8 or 9 knots of patchy southerly breeze didn’t promise much excitement, but a fleet of 13 competitors were none the less keen to get in one last race.
A highlight of the monohull race was the competition between Martina Holt in Spellbound and Terry Howard in Flying Fish. The two stuck close together and traded places several times during the race. Eventually Spellbound was in front at the finish line, but with Flying Fish only seconds behind. On Yardstick, Paul Robertson and Kate Copeland in Flembouyant crossed third followed by Warren Sykes in Runamuck, Simon Gandy and Kieran Copeland in Up Beat, Andrew Richards in Impulsive, and Steve Couch in Lazybuoy. The lighter conditions were perfect for Steve and Lucy Bohlsen to put in some great trapeze training in Interceptor coming in next followed by Tony Walker in Deep Purple. Roger Shipton unfortunately didn’t have enough breeze to really make his new “Over Eighted” Scrow Moth take flight. Rounding out the monohull fleet was Zoe and Andrew Copeland in Big Bang.
Impulsive took the win on handicap, followed by Deep Purple, Flying Fish, Spellbound, Lazybuoy, Flembouyant, Up Beat, Over Eighted, Interceptor Runamuck and Big Bang.
There were only two competitors in the Catamaran Division. Tony Kuhn on Stella took the win on both yardstick and handicap followed by Scott Witchard on Hummer.
Unfortunately, there is no race next week. Remember the dinner and presentation will be at the clubhouse at 6pm on Saturday May 8th.
