Ted Kuhn Cup

Event information
It was a day of memories on Sunday with members of the Port Macquarie Sailing Club competing in the Ted Kuhn Cup and reminiscing about the man who was such a large part of the club and wider Port Macquarie community.
The conditions were great for sailing with NE winds 8-12 knots in the morning increasing to 10-15 in the afternoon. The tide was running in, making it a much smoother ride than last week. An afternoon storm built in the west but eventually dissipated as the wind died – thankfully just after the fleet completed the last race.
In the first race of the day, the catamaran division saw a close battle with Dion Carle on Scaramouche take the lead from Tony Kuhn on Stella, Rob Barwick on Drift, and Dave Winter on Spica.
Warren Sykes in Runamuck, was clearly rested from his vacation to take the yardstick win in the monohulls from David Makin in Puddy, Martina Holt in Spellbound, Steve Couch in Lazybuoy, Grady, Gus and Liz McNee in Better than Ballet, Roger Shipton in Zazoo, Stuart Symons and Kieran Copeland in Elmo. Steve Bohlsen came next while training up Lucy as the next generation crew in Interceptor. The duo added some excitement for an angler on a barbecue boat who hooked a bigger fish than he was expecting. Next up was Simon Gandy, Andrew and Zoe Copeland in Voyager, and Adam Pilcher and Greg Packer in Red Star.
After lunch, in the stronger conditions, Stella outperformed Drift by a large margin, then Scaramouche and Spica.
In the monohull division, there was lack of crew for the second race, and all three Tasars took to the water with just a skipper. Unfortunately, Red Star snapped the mast and lost the tiller in a capsize before the race start.
Runamuck continued to lead from the front, followed by Puddy, Better than Ballet, Zazoo, Spellbound, Lazybuoy, Voyager, Interceptor (with crew deserting to the safety boat mid race) and Elmo.
Results combined over the two races saw Tony Kuhn take the win on Stella in the catamaran division. Warren Sykes in Runamuck won the single-handed monohull division and Grady, Gus and Liz McNee in Better than Ballet took the crown for the two-handed monohulls without spinnaker division. There were no competitors in the two-handed monohull with spinnaker division.
Next week will be Race 4 of the Handicap start series starting at 11am. Scott Witchard is rostered on duty.
