Spring Series Race 2
Details
Event information
A fleet of 20 boats launched into a light and variable north-east breeze on Sunday for the Port Macquarie Sailing Club’s first double-header of the season which included the second race of the Spring Season and the first Club Championship race.
To improve safety with the growing number of competitors, the Commodore is now splitting the fleet into three separate starts: Catamarans starting first, followed by double-handed monohulls, and single-handed monos and juniors last.
For the first race, the catamaran division was won on yardstick by Frank O’Rourke on Dino followed by Rob Barwick on Drift, Tony Kuhn on Stella, Dave Winter on Spica and Scott Witchard on Hummer. There are no handicap results until after the third race.
Rohan Nosworthy led the monohulls home on Beat It followed by Warren Sykes on Runa Muck, Martina Holt on Spellbound, Kelly Witchard on Devocean, Terry Howard on Ratz, Tony Walker on Deep Purple, Stuart Symons and Emma Knight on Elmo, Steve Couch on Lazybuoy, Steve Bohlsen and Caitlin Hicks on Interceptor, Geoff Williams on his One Design Windsurfer. Adam Pilcher on Puffin did not finish.
In the Juniors race, Charlie Nosworthy on Vitamin C crossed the line in front of Aidan Nosworthy on his new Sabot Red Herring followed by Ziggy Ewart and Riley Armstrong on Equalizer.
For the first Club Championship in the afternoon, the breeze increased a little for the start, but towards the finish a fast-flowing tide and dwindling wind made it tough for the last few boats to complete the course.
For the Juniors, it was a carbon copy of the morning race results.
In the Catamaran division, Frank O’Rourke on Dino led the way followed by Scott Witchard on Hummer, Rob Barwick on Drift, Dave Winter on Spica.
Rohan Nosworthy repeated his yardstick win in the monohull division on Beat It followed by Warren Sykes on Runa Muck, Stuart Symons and Emma Knight on Elmo, Kelly Witchard on Devocean, Terry Howard on Ratz, Roger Shipton on Zazoo, Martina Holt on Spellbound, Simon Gandy and Tammy on Voyager, Tony Walker on Deep Purple and Geoff Williams on his One Design Windsurfer. Steve Couch on Lazybuoy, Steve Bohlsen (now sailing solo after Caitlin injured her knee) on Interceptor and Adam Pilcher on Puffin did not finish.
Next Sunday will be Race 3 of the Spring Series starting at 1pm. Dave Winter is rostered on duty.
