PORT MACQUARIE SAILING CLUB
22-09-2019

The Port Macquarie Sailing Club held their 1st race of the Handicap Start series on Sunday. The day started with a light breeze that slowly faded resulting in a shortened course and everyone’s skills being put to working with or against the incoming tide. A number of boats gave up trying to make progress and turned for the clubhouse before the breeze picked up helping the later boats make it home.

The junior race was won by Bridgette Taylor & Simon Gandy in Dorado. Drake Houghton in Yang, Oliver Houghton in Yin and Caitlin Hicks & Jaiden Bourke in Sunset were all defeated by the light conditions and failed to finish.

In the catamaran class, most of our regular sailors were again away. Dave Winter on Spica won.

The monohull division was won by Andrew Richards in Impulsive followed by Terry Howard in Ratz, Roger Shipton in Zazoo, Mick Hodgson in Big Blue, Stuart Symons & Liam Halmi in Elmo, Baerin Houghton in Red Rainbow and lastly Jane Cooper in Impetuous. Steve Couch in Lazybuoy, Martina Holt in Spellbound and Ed Molony & Steve Bohlsen in St. Elmo did not finish in the light conditions

Next Sunday is the first Sprint Series with a midday start, the first two races, a break for lunch and then 3 more races. Simon Gandy is rostered on duty.
