PORT MACQUARIE SAILING CLUB
8-9-19
The Port Macquarie Sailing Club’s double header on Sunday consisted of race 2 of the spring series in the morning, a BBQ lunch, and then the 1st club championship race in the afternoon. Strong gusting south westerly winds and a strengthening run in tide brought out the brave and adventurous and made for challenging sailing and great entertainment for the spectators with fast racing and a number of capsizes.
The Junior’s morning race was won by Bridgette Taylor & Simon Gandy in Dorado closely followed by Caitlyn Hicks in Britannia with a full crew of Cameron Halmi & Jeff Walsh followed by Jett Hodgson in Baby Blue.
Frank O’Rourke on Dino led the catamarans around the course to win the morning race ahead of Dion Carle on Scaramouche a minute ahead of Jack Corthals on Harpic.
The monohulls morning race was won by Roger Shipton on Zazoo ahead of Steve Couch on Lazybuoy, Stuart Symons & Liam Halmi on Elmo all finishing closely, followed by Mick Hodgson on Big Blue and then Steve Bohlsen & Ed Molony in Interceptor.
After lunch some competitors had left due to conditions while others rigged up thinking the wind was easing off.
Britannia now with Jaiden Bourke & Jeff Walsh as crew won the 1st Junior Club Championship ahead of Dorado. Well done Juniors.
The club championship race for catamarans in the afternoon was won by Frank O’Rourke on Dino a good distance ahead of Scaramouche.
Martina Holt on Spellbound won the mono-hull division followed by Zazoo, Elmo, Interceptor and Big Blue. Jane Cooper on Pineapple retired due to conditions.
Next Sunday is race 3 of the spring series starting at 1.00pm. Dave Winter is rostered on duty. Handicap results will start after week 3 racing.
Junior sailing will be held between 9-12 am before racing. All welcome.
