PORT MACQUARIE SAILING CLUB
15/09/2019

The Port Macquarie Sailing Club held race 3 of the spring series on Sunday under blue skies with a good North Easterly breeze and the end of the run-out tide. A number of regulars being away made for a smaller fleet. Dave Winter set an interesting longer course. Thank you to the Port Macquarie Yacht Club and Carl Webster from Australian Sailing for organising an after race BBQ/social.

With only one Catamaran sailing, Dion Carle on Scaramouche was assured of a win by both Yardstick and Handicap and had a good run despite having trouble righting his boat against the tide from a complete capsize.

Strong racing and good runs by Steve Bohlsen & Ed Maloney in Interceptor saw them take the win on Yardstick by over a minute from Paul Robertson & Caleb Bohlsen in Flembouyant. Roger Shipton on Zazoo narrowly beat Andrew Richards in Impulsive followed by Simon Gandy with crew of Elsa Gandy & Bridgette Taylor in Voyager, then Scott Witchard in Devocean in his first race of the season, followed at a distance by Jane Cooper in her new boat Impetuous and finally Stuart Symons & Liam Halmi in Elmo who had stopped for running repairs.

After week 3 we are able to calculate handicap results for sailors. Steve Bohlsen & Ed Maloney in Interceptor maintained their decisive win finishing 9 minutes ahead of Roger Shipton on Zazoo, then a dead heat between Jane Cooper in Impetuous and Simon Gandy with crew of Elsa Gandy & Bridgette Taylor in Voyager. Scott Witchard on Devocean was one second later then Andrew Richards in Impulsive one second later again. Paul Robertson & Caleb Bohlsen in Flembouyant came in nearly a minute later followed by Stuart Symons & Liam Halmi in Elmo.

Next Sunday is race 1 of the handicap starts commencing at 12.30pm. Simon Gandy is rostered on duty.

Junior sailing will be held between 9-12 am before racing. All welcome.
