While the forecast wind was not terribly inspiring on Sunday, conditions improved during the afternoon for an exciting day of racing at Port Macquarie Sailing Club.

First up was Race 4 of the Summer Series which started with just 11 or 12 knots nor'easterly breeze and the last of the run-out tide.

A close start had many crews stuck in dirty air until the fleet was able to spread out. Terry Howard in Flying Dragon was off to a quick start and lead the fleet around the course. Stuart Symons and Esra Mert in Elmo and Jeff Walsh in Serenity had a close race coming second and third respectively followed by Steve and Lucy Bohlsen in Interceptor, Rob Barwick in Impulsive, Steve Couch in Lazybuoy, and Martina Holt in Spellbound.

In the catamaran division, Dave Winter on Spica came in second place following a shiny blue unnamed boat.

During lunch, the tide turned and winds filled out to a good 15-17 knots with some bigger gusts slightly more ENE. The 5th Club Championship Race attracted a few additional competitors. Paul Robertson and Dave McNeill in Flembouyant and Warren Sykes in Runamuck both put in a master class of sailing leading the fleet around the course by a considerable distance. Flembouyant took line honours followed by Runamuck and Elmo.

Roger Shipton in Zazoo sailed a competitive race against Flying Dragon with Zazoo gaining upwind, and Flying Dragon edging ahead downwind. Flying Dragon was in front at the finish. Following Zazoo, were Serenity, Lazybuoy, Impulsive, Interceptor, and Spellbound.

There was a repeat of the morning results for the catamaran division.

Yardstick and handicap results will be published on the Club's Facebook pageĀ as soon as they are available.
