Sprints Races 6-10
Details
Event information
The Port Macquarie Sailing Club’s 2nd round of sprint races was supposed to be 5 races, but the early lighter breeze and later approaching storms meant that only 4 races were run. The first 2 races which were run before the lunch break were in a lightish Easterly with the last of the run in tide, and the 2nd 2 races which were run after the lunch break were in a freshening North Easer with the start of the run out tide.
The 1st race of the day for the catamarans was won by Jack Corthals on Crackerjack followed by Rob Barwick on Drift and Dave Winter on Spica. Jim Kerrison and Deb Stenning in Death Defying took the monohull win ahead of Warren Sykes in Runamuck, Jeff Walsh in Serenity, Andrew Richards in Impulsive, Martina Holt in Spellbound, Terry Howard in Flying Dragon, Adam Pilcher and Gonçalo Pereira in Red Star, Baerin and Harriet Houghton and Simon Gandy in Big Bang, Roger Shipton in Zazoo, Steve and Lucy Bohlsen in Interceptor, Stuart Symons in Puffin, and Oliver and Drake Houghton in Sailfish.
The 2nd race for the catamarans was a repeat of the 1st race with Crackerjack leading Drift and Spica across the line. Death Defying again took the monohull win followed by Runamuck, Serenity, Spellbound, Zazoo, Impulsive, Flying Dragon, Big Bang, Red Star, Interceptor, Elmo, and Sailfish.
After a break for lunch, the 3rd race again saw the catamarans finish Crackerjack, Drift, and Spica. The monohull division was again won by Death Defying ahead of Runamuck, Serenity, Flying Dragon, Impulsive, Red Star this time with Stuart Symons as crew, Spellbound, and Interceptor this time without Lucy on board. Zazoo had is mainsail come loose at the head again, and Sailfish had ‘Crew issues’.
To complete a full sweep, the catamarans once again finished the 4th race Crackerjack, Drift, and Spica. The freshening breeze suited Death Defying even more to again take the monohull win. They were followed by Runamuck, Flying Dragon, Serenity, Spellbound, Zazoo, Impulsive, Red Star, and Sailfish, this time with Simon Gandy as crew.
Next Sunday is race 5 of the spring series starting at 11.00 am and the 2nd Club Championship at 2PM with a BBQ lunch. Paul Robertson is rostered on duty.
