Senior Phoenix Program Information

Coming off the back of a very competitive 2022 AVL season the Senior Phoenix program has a new and exciting opportunity with Volleyball Super League. The VSL season will have an earlier start so VNSW will utilize the Junior Phoenix program to gain Senior momentum. This will include invitation only training for select Senior athletes as well as 4 intra squad match opportunities against the Junior teams. 

The Senior Phoenix program will be begin training once the AJVC season concludes and the SVL league hits final 4. Please note that athletes should prioritize their club responsibilities and join Senior Phoenix once they finish their SVL season.

Starting July 18th the Senior Phoenix program will train twice a week with S&C and physiotherapy integration. This will be a professionally driven program so athletes will be expected to make this their primary sporting commitment. Due to the earlier timing of the season and the new format of VSL, the Senior Phoenix program will be a tighter and more focused program. The program will select 20 athletes per gender. 

EOI & Nomination Information

Athletes will be invited to training sessions based on the strength of their EOI application. THERE WILL NOT BE AN OPEN TRIAL, however, performance in AVL 2022, SVL 2023 and Junior Phoenix 2023 will be used as nomination criteria. VNSW and Phoenix coaching staff reserve the right to invite athletes of their choosing to training and feature matches.

Athletes will be nominated to join Junior Phoenix and/or specific Senior Phoenix training and feature matches. Performance and talent demonstration in these trainings and matches will determine selection to the Senior Phoenix Team.

Selection & Season Information

Due to the earlier timing of the season and the new format of VSL, the Senior Phoenix program will be a tighter and more focused program. The program will select 20 athletes per gender with the team being announced after AJVC (July 9th) prior to the first team training July 18th.

Athletes selected to the team will be responsible for the costs of the program. (TBC)

This application is for athletes of all ages. Athletes under the age of 19 will only be considered unless they are already part of 2023 Junior Phoenix Program.
