Port Adelaide Long Row Saturday 14 June

Published Fri 06 Jun 2025

Come and join us at PARC for some long rows in the lead up to Wharf to Woolshed, Head of the Port and Head of the Yarra! We plan to offer 4 sessions of long rowing on the Port River in 2025. Explore the further reaches of the Port River and Barker Inlet, via the Cutting, North Arm and Garden Island, accompanied by dolphins, stingrays, and other estuary creatures and migratory and estuary bird life. Views of the sea, the Adelaide Hills and the marine estuarine coast up past St Kilda. Row past the Australian Sub Corp and the Frigates, Torrens Island power station and the historic Quarantine Station

The next row has been scheduled for Saturday 14 June. We will be meeting at the Club 7.30am for an 8.30am start to allow time to finalise crews and get organised and to receive a safety briefing.  This week's row will be from the club rooms to Bower Road, back up to the Port River to the Cutting, and then back to the club rooms for Brunch, as the tides do not favour rowing around the island. Detailed information about the event, including route maps and safety information will be provided to Rowing SA and club captains prior to the weekend.

All individuals participating in the event will be required to register so we can collect seat fees and payment for brunch. We are running these as a fundraising event for the club, to provide some long distance training during the off season and some alternative rowing events to the regular types of races.  This event is only open to members of SA Rowing Clubs who are registered with Rowing SA.  We also ask that volunteers who are assisting with the event as safety boat drivers also register here, and to select a "Volunteer Support" ticket (volunteers are not charged).

Please use this link to register for the event: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/parcsms/events/298467

Please liaise with your club to organise yourself into crews, and have the club captains email the boat and crew lists to the following email addresses:

  • PARC Captain - captain@portadelaiderowingclub.com.au
  • Secretary -  secretary@portadelaiderowingclub.com.au
Final crew lists must be provided on the day to our onshore safety coordinator. This event will  subject to a final safety assessment on the day. The route may be changed to increase safety in the conditions. Three safety boats will accompany the rowing crews.  A couple of safety updates following the last row:

  • Ensure that crews are wearing close fitting high visibility clothing when rowing on the river.  This is a working river, with commercial shipping traffic and this is an important safety issue which will be enforced.
  • Rowing in some of the places we will be going on the Port River is not for inexperienced crews.  Less experienced rowers can enjoy and participate in the event, provided they are placed in crews with more experienced rowers and  coxswains.  We encourage club captains to take this into consideration when forming crews.
If the row needs to be cancelled the following options will be considered:

  • Cancellation before the event, we will offer a full refund.
  • Cancellation of the event on the day - we will consider a relocation of the event to West Lakes, weather permitting -  dependent on agreement with other clubs.  After the row at West Lakes, brunch will still be available at Port Adelaide after the event.
  • If the event cannot be moved to West Lakes we will offer a discounted rate for the next event and we will have an early brunch. Those who came down for the last row have been sent discount codes.

Due to safety reasons we will not be accepting registrations for singles.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you all down at the club, and we really value and appreciate your support!
