Traveller Series

This 2024/25 summer season, Qld OK's are going to run a traveller series of 7 race days, split between the RQYS & Southport Yachts Clubs and including the 2024 Qld State titles at Humpybong. The intention is to get the fleets at each respective club to travel to the other club once a month to get together and race as a joint fleet. Longer open water courses with reaching legs at the RQ, multiple sprint style races each day at the SYC and the State Championship thrown into the mix as well.

Each race day will be run as part of the host clubs regular club race day. With the exception of the State Titles, they won't be special events put on for the Traveller series. So on days that are designated as being hosted by the SYC for some sprint race style racing, the SYC boats will carry on as normal and the RQ team & other visitors turn up at the SYC, enter the days racing as a visitor and come and race for the day with the days results contributing to the Traveller series results table.

The Dates are:
Rnd 1 - September 29 @ Southport Yacht Club - Sprint Racing
Rnd 2 - October 19 @RQYS - Club Racing (Also an RQ Club Champs Round)
Rnd 3 - November 23 & 24 @ Humpybong YC - Qld State Champs
Rnd 4 - December 14 @ RQYS - Club Racing
Rnd 5 - Feb 15 @ RQYS - Club Racing
Rnd 6 - March 15 @ Southport Yacht Club - Sprint Racing
Rnd 7 - April 27 @ Southport - Sprint Style Racing and we're proposing a presentation afterwards

How we will work it:

  • All sailors that are paid up members of the International OK Dinghy Association - Qld, before Round 1 will be Automatically entered into the Traveller series for the season.
  • Non-Qld members are welcome to enter and be eligible for the Traveller Series overall, but points will be counted from the Round that they enter from to the end of the season.
  • Points are awarded on placings, IE 1st in a race = 1 point, 3rd = 3 points etc etc. DNF / DNS / DSQ on the day = entrants on the day +1 point. DNC = entrants on the day +3 points.
  • Lowest points at the end of the season wins the Traveller series trophy.
  • There's no minimum number of races and no drops. It's once a month, only semi serious and the intent is to get as many to attend as possible. And if we think the format and scoring needs a tweak we'll take feedback for next year.
