Round 5 2026

Published Tue 09 Jun 2026

Firstly, apologies for the gap between newsletters! With many of our players away at the Bunbury Carnival and hockey admin running on coffee and good intentions, we've had a short break between newsletters juggling a very full schedule. But we're back with the Round 5 Newsletter and, just like that, it's straight back into the action, the games, and those fun sideline chats we've all been missing!

What a beautiful weekend for hockey, with players enjoying some sunshine before today's wild weather rolled in. It was another fantastic round of matches, filled with great teamwork, determination and plenty of smiles on and off the field.

A highlight of the week was seeing our Year 5/6 North Albany teams go head-to-head in a closely contested match. North Albany Grey just scraped home with a 1–0 victory, but the real winner was the wonderful camaraderie and sportsmanship on display throughout the game.

Thank you to our coaches, managers, families and supporters for everything you do to make hockey such a positive experience for our students. We look forward to another great week of hockey ahead. Good luck to all teams taking the field!

Players Wanted!

The Lower Great Southern Hockey Association is seeking boys and girls aged 11–12 to represent the Association at the 2026 Fuel to Go & Play Club Championships in Perth this July. This is a fantastic opportunity to compete against teams from across WA and make new friends along the way.

If your child is interested, please contact Jessamy at do@lgshockey.asn.au before 7am on Sunday 14 June to register their interest or find out more.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all players selected to represent the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association at the upcoming CBH Group Country Championships. It was fantastic to see so many North Albany names on the team list – a wonderful achievement and a reflection of your hard work and dedication. We wish all players, coaches and officials the very best as they proudly represent the Great Southern in Perth.

South West Junior Carnival Success!

Congratulations to all of the Great Southern teams on a fantastic South West Junior Carnival, with three teams finishing as runners-up in their divisions. Despite facing some challenging conditions, including strong winds, rain, hail, cancelled matches and last-minute schedule changes, our players showed incredible resilience, sportsmanship and determination throughout the weekend.

It was wonderful to see so many North Albany players representing the Great Southern across all age groups. Your effort, teamwork and positive attitude were a credit to both your clubs and our region. Well done to all involved!

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK!!!!

B-Grade Three Anchors Gift Voucher – Dean Schoof

A massive congratulations to Dean Schoof, our very deserving B-Grade Award winner!

Dean takes home the honours this week for his heroic (and ongoing) efforts in performing the ultimate weekly miracle: successfully herding a metaphorical pack of cats to get the team organised and onto the pitch.

Alongside his outstanding organisational skills, Dean also made his mark on the field with a spectacular goal in the game against Mount Barker. It was an absolute ripper, made even more memorable by his equally impressive post-goal celebration!

Thank you, Dean, for everything you do on and off the field — your effort, humour and leadership do not go unnoticed.

Year 2/3/4 Player of the Week – Griffin Hart

A huge congratulations to Griffin Hart, our Year 2/3/4 Player of the Week!

Griffin delivered an outstanding performance, showing fantastic determination, skill and sportsmanship throughout the game. He played with real energy from start to finish, constantly putting himself into the action and supporting his teammates all over the field.

It was one of those games where Griffin’s effort and enthusiasm really stood out, making a big impact on the team’s performance and spirit.

Well done, Griffin — a very well-deserved recognition for an excellent game!

A big thank you once again to Three Anchors Albany and Dylan’s on the Terrace for their generous vouchers and ongoing support of our Players of the Week. Your contribution is very much appreciated and helps us celebrate the efforts of our players each week.

THIS WEEKEND!

This week, most of our teams are going head-to-head against Mount Barker. If you’re up for a trip (and maybe a sneaky visit to the bakery), we’d love to see you there cheering our players on!

Our Men’s B Grade are in action on Wednesday at 7:00pm, with our Boys 7/8/9 teams playing at 5:30pm.

Then on Saturday, our fixtures kick off with the 2/3/4 Grey team at 11:00am, followed by the 5/6 Grey team at 12:15pm. After that, our Women’s B Grade take to the turf at 1:45pm, before our A Grade round out the day at 3:15pm.

And a bonus for the Mount Barker round… we’ve heard whispers that there will be food and drinks available all day in the clubrooms! The perfect excuse for a day out—come down, grab a bite, and support our teams.

We can’t wait to see how everyone goes this week. Until next time, stay safe, keep practising, and enjoy the love of the game. Have a wonderful week—and keep warm!

Kindest Regards

North Albany Hockey Club
