Welcome to Round 14!

What a difference a weekend makes! Last weekend we were battling blizzards, and this weekend we were reaching for the water bottles! Saturday turned out to be an absolute cracker of a day for hockey, with sunshine, plenty of warmth and perfect conditions to get out on the turf.

There was plenty happening across the club, so grab yourself a cuppa, settle in and let’s see what Round 14 had in store for our teams!

Well, it was a very successful week on the turf for our North Albany teams, with plenty of wins, a couple of draws and some great hockey across the board! Here’s a look at what happened over the past week.

It was a North Albany vs North Albany showdown on Wednesday, with our Redbacks and Grey teams going head-to-head in a very competitive game! Both teams battled hard, but it was the Redbacks who managed to sneak in the only goal of the game to come away with the 1–0 win. 

It was fantastic to see both teams competing so strongly while showing great sportsmanship, respect and support for each other. Well done to both teams — we love seeing our North teams going head-to-head!

Players of the Week

2/3/4 Redbacks — Poppy Blythman

A huge well done to Poppy Blythman, our Player of the Week! 

Poppy has shown heaps of improvement throughout the season, and it has been fantastic to watch her confidence grow. Her positioning and ability to make space have been fantastic, and she is always willing to step up and take on the challenge of playing goalie, making her a great little keeper! 

Well done, Poppy! Keep up the fantastic work! 

5/6 Grey — Delilah Westerberg

A massive congratulations to Delilah Westerberg, our absolute superstar in goals! 

Just before the school holidays, our team was hit hard by the winter flu, leaving us completely undermanned. Facing a tough battle, Delilah stood tall and put on an absolute clinic in goalkeeping.

Her gallant efforts and fantastic skills kept us in the game from the opening whistle to the final siren. Without Delilah’s incredible saves under pressure, the scoreline would have looked very different.

Thank you for your determination, brilliant teamwork and fantastic goalkeeping, Delilah — well done! 

B-Grade — Mitch Hathaway

Congratulations to Mitch Hathaway, our B-Grade Three Anchors Player of the Week! 

Mitch is a new member of our team this year and has been a fantastic addition. He has proven himself as both a forward and a back, but has now settled nicely into an attacking halfback position.

His young legs have given our team some much-needed drive and energy, and he continues to be a valuable part of the team.  Thanks for coming aboard, Mitch, and well done on a fantastic start to the season!

Trivia Night!

We survived the LGSHA Trivia Night! What a fun night it was — and goodness, did it test those brain cells... the ones that haven’t already been knocked out from hockey! 😂

A huge well done to the winners, ‘I Got 99 Problems and This Quiz Is One’ — and yes, we definitely recognise a few familiar North Albany faces in there! Clearly, it’s not just hockey skills they’ve got going for them... they’ve got brains too! 

Thanks to everyone who came along, had a laugh and represented North Albany. We reckon there may be a few more quiz nights in our future!

And just like that, we’re heading into the final few weeks of the season! How has it gone so quickly? It feels like only yesterday we were kicking off the season, and now we’re starting to see the finish line — and finals — getting closer!

The weather is looking kind to us this weekend, so fingers crossed we get some more sunshine and plenty of great hockey. ☀️🏑

Good luck to all our teams taking to the turf! Enjoy these last few weeks, soak up the hockey, the friendships and the fun, and most importantly, enjoy every minute before we hit finals time.
