Hi Everyone,

There’s so much happening in the world of water polo!

Athletes have been training hard in ACT Representative Programs for upcoming events.

EAST COAST CHALLENGE Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), 3–5 July 

The ECC brings together some of the strongest junior programs along the East Coast. Congratulations to all 15&U athletes selected - we’re excited to see you take the next step in your development and represent the ACT in Melbourne. Best of luck to players and staff for the tournament ahead. Let’s go WPACT!

 WPACT 13&U NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CARNIVAL Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre, Tasmania 9–12 July. Congratulations to all athletes selected. Your hard work, commitment, and effort throughout the season have earned you this opportunity, and we can’t wait to see you represent the ACT in Tasmania!  Best of luck to all players and coaching staff travelling to Hobart.

USA WATER POLO NATIONAL JUNIOR OLYMPICS Good luck to Nordek athletes currently training with their teams in the USA. Competition starts on 18 July.

AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY TEAM SELECTION

Congratulations to Eilis Rogis and Caitlin Leather who have been selected in the Australian Country Team following their performances at the recent Australian Country Championships in Ballarat.

Big congrats to our Nordek athletes who represented ACT at the Australian Country Championships in Ballarat.  Declan McJilton helped the ACT Men claim back-to-back Silver Medals, going undefeated through pool play before a hard-fought final against NSW.

Eilis Rogis, MacKayla Penfold and Mel Taylor all competed for the ACT Women, with the team bringing home a Bronze Medal for the fourth consecutive year. Caitlin Leather represented the ADF Women, who finished the tournament strongly with a win to secure 5th place

Looking to take the next step in coaching or refereeing? Water Polo ACT is launching two brand-new Mentor Programs this August, designed to support the development of the next generation of coaches and referees in the ACT

- Open to coaches and referees aged 15+

  • Includes accreditation, mentoring, guest presenters, resources, and meals 

Referee Mentor Program 1–2 August

• 2-day workshop at the AIS

• Game assessments and feedback

• Presentations from World Aquatics referees

• Video review and real-game scenarios

• Referee accreditation

 Coaching Mentor Program 15–16 August

• 2-day workshop

• Ongoing mentor support

• Access to coaching resources

• Opportunities to learn from representative programs

• Coaching accreditation

Places are limited, with only 40 participants available in each stream, so get your applications in early

This is a fantastic opportunity for current and aspiring coaches and referees to develop their skills, learn from experienced mentors, and help grow our game here in Canberra.

WATER POLO WORLD CUP FINALS FROM 22-26 JULY

The world’s best water polo teams are heading to Australia!

The 2026 Water Polo World Cup Finals will be held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) from 22 - 26 July 2026, with the world’s top eight men’s and women’s national teams competing for the World Cup title!

The Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks and Stingers will be competing on home soil, making this one of the biggest international water polo events ever hosted in Australia

As Nordek members, players, families, and supporters, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience international water polo at its highest level and get behind our Australian teams.

Congratulations to our very own Don Cameron appointed in his official capacity, will represent Australia at one of the sport’s biggest international events on home soil.

Don Cameron who currently serves as Vice Chair of the Technical Water Polo Committee for World Aquatics, said the tournament presents a major opportunity for Australian referees to showcase their abilities in front of a home crowd.

CANBERRA WATER POLO ACADEMY

TERM 3 CANBERRA SCHOOLS COMPETITION

Following the success of the Term 1 Canberra Schools Competition, we’re excited to launch a new Term 3 Canberra Schools Competition for Years 5–6 and Years 7–9 mixed divisions.

Designed to be social, fun, and participation-focused, the competition gives athletes the opportunity to represent their school, play with friends, and continue developing their water polo skills.

Fridays: 7 August – 19 September (7 weeks)

5:30pm – 8:30pm

Years 5–6 & Years 7–9 Mixed Divisions

Fast 5s Format

$165 per player

School teams and individual player EOIs are now open. If your school doesn’t currently have a team entered, individual athletes can register and will be placed into a composite team. There are still a limited number of spots available for additional school teams and individual players.

TERM 3 - CWPA TALENT DEVELOPMENT SQUAD – NOMINATIONS OPEN

Term 3 nominations are now open for new athletes to join the Canberra Water Polo Academy Talent Development Squad (TDS). The program supports athletes to continue their development through high-quality additional training, athlete support and performance opportunities.

This term, TDS athletes completed athlete screenings, developed Individual Performance Plans (IPPs), met with coaches to discuss their goals and development areas, with a number of athletes progressing into the Strength & Conditioning gym program.
