Melbourne weather threatened rain all week, but Mother Nature came in clutch in the end with the rain holding off until the festivities were done for the 64th Head of the Yarra event on Saturday.  A total of 281 8+ crews from around Australia and New Zealand raced their way from the city up to Hawthorn Rowing club competing in the pinnacle of the Victorian head racing season. 

Nagambie was well represented at the event, competing in crews across 4 events with some fabulous results:

Male Masters I  8+

John Strapps was out in fine form in this I age category crew early in the morning coming up with a 2nd place finish.  The I age category has a crew average age of 75 years - an impressive feat and shows the longevity of the sport of rowing with competitors still out there well into their 70's!

Female Masters E 8+

The biggest field of the day with 19 entries in this category!  Heather Bradbury and Tammy Robichaud joined forces with the Melbourne Rowing Club to put in a cracking row in this field, passing 6 crews up the course for a 2nd place finish behind a strong Uni Queensland crew who were the reigning champions.

Female Masters F 8+

Another highly competitive division in rowing is the F age category.  Jane Robinson and Wendy Cotter competed in a Melbourne composite crew to take out the win in this category.

Male Composite 8+

What's a head race without some debate on who should yield the racing line up the course!  Will Day joined a Lake Eildon Composite crew to take out a 2nd place finish in this division.
