2022 Summer Competition - Season Wrap

Congratulations to all our teams and members who competed in the 2022 WPV Summer Competition. A season filled with the added challenge of COVID-19 isolations meant that most weeks we had different combinations playing together and very much so struggled for consistency across the board in our teams.

Four of our club's five teams finished in the Top 4, with our WSL3 and MSL2 teams flying the flag for the club and bringing home premierships.

Thank you to the continual support and effort from coaches and team managers to get our teams through the season!

End of Season Event

We look forward to celebrating the results of the Summer Comp and provide team awards in early May. Final details are still being confirmed, but expect an enjoyable Saturday afternoon with a few drinks, some good company and a good time.

Laps for Life

The MUPolo team set out to raise $5000 and swim 250km in support of Reach Out Australia, an organisation that does incredible work supporting youth mental health in Australia. Raising over $21,500 and swimming 860km, the team thoroughly smashed their goals to finish in 5th place for most money raised by a teaam across Australia.

The club is incredibly proud of all participants, not only did they push their physical limits - especially James Etherington who swam 100km across the month with 6km butterfly to finish - but they had a massive fundraising effort that raised money for a cause MUPolo is especially passionate about.

We look forward to seeing what the club brings to the table next year and invite all club members to get involved!

2022 Winter Competition

Expressions of Interest are now open for players wishing to play for MUPolo during the 2022 WPV Winter Competition.

The competition will commence in the week beginning the 16 May 2022, and will run for 11-12 rounds, including finals. Finals will be held in the week beginning 15 August 2022. There will be a two week mid-season break between 25 June and 16 July to align with school holidays.

Please express your interest via our club website here.

Team Selections

Team selections will be conducted at training on Sunday 1 May and Sunday 8 May.
Teams will be selected by the coaching team and will be based on a number of factors including: water polo skill, speed and game awareness, attitude and commitment.

Following initial selection, there will still be an opportunity for players to be selected for higher grades. That decision will be based on those players continuing to attend training, learning and demonstrating a development in their skills. Similarly, players who do not demonstrate these values, which are expected in order to represent our club at premier levels, will not be rewarded with selection in our club’s premier teams.

The trials for each of the mens’ and womens’ teams will be as follows:

Women’s trials

  • Sunday May 1 & Sunday May 8
  • 3:00pm until 4:30pm

Men’s trials

  • Sunday May 1 & Sunday May 8
  • 4:30pm until 6:00pm

Please understand that our club as a whole comes before any one individual. Our club caters for all levels of experience - from absolute beginner, to seasoned veterans. As a member of our club, you may not always be selected in the team you have requested. This is the nature of competitive sport. If you are disappointed with the team you are selected in, we encourage you to reach out to your coach and ask how you may be able to improve and seek the opportunity to play in a higher grade.

Training

Club training will run on both Sundays and Thursdays during the Winter Comp. Sunday training sessions will be skills-based, while Thursday sessions will be swimming-based. It is expected that all club members attend Sunday sessions as a minimum, with Thursday swimming a supplementary session targeted to those who wish to play in the club’s premier teams, and those looking for further development.

Training will recommence this Sunday with a social session to ease back into things, and then continue as follows:

  • Sundays @ MSAC Diving Pool
    • 24 April, 3:00 - 5:00pm: social water polo, all welcome
    • 1 May & 8 May: Winter Comp selection trials (see above)
    • 15 May and on-going: skills
      • 3:00pm - 4:30pm SL1 squad (men & women)
      • 4:30pm - 6:00pm open training (men & women)
  • Thursdays @ Melbourne Uni Pool
    • 28 April and on-going, 7:45pm - 9:00pm: swimming, all welcome

It is greatly encouraged that players continue to attend training throughout the season as training is the best place to try new things, learn and make mistakes. Playing competition games only is not sufficient to learn and develop new skills. Performance in games alone will not be considered enough to earn players promotion to higher grades or teams.
