Frequently Asked Questions

Please check if your question has been answered here before emailing or messaging the club. If you still have further enquiries, please feel free to reach out!

How much is court hire and how can I book?

A: Court booking is independent to MUBC. To book, please contact the university's sport centre (MU Sport) directly here: https://sport.unimelb.edu.au/court-venue-hire/court-hire

Do you guys organise socials?

As a university club, our main offerings are social sessions during semester, although we often organise socials during the university breaks.

Our social timings are generally:

Saturday: 1pm to 3:30pm

Sunday: 12:30pm to 3pm

If you are interested in a semester pass, please keep an eye out on our page around mid-February onwards. Semester socials are generally held on Tuesday, Thurday, Saturday and Sunday early/late afternoons.

How do I sign up as a member?

We always publish membership details on our Facebook page 1-2 weeks prior to the start of semester. You will then need to register and pay via the "Membership" section of our site.

Note that members still need to pre-register at our Events page for each session - this is to avoid exceeding our player limit.

What are the benefits of becoming a member?

  1. Early access to social sessions
  2. Badminton Victoria membership
  3. Free/Subsidized non badminton social events
  4. Discounted strings and merchandise at Badminton Click*

What kind of scoring system do you use?

We use the rally point system of scoring for all games. Each game will go to 21 points with setting if the score reaches 20-20.

What is available at each social?

There will be 4 courts available over a period of 2.5 hours with high-quality shuttles provided (generally Aeroplane Black). Players are requested to rotate out of the court at the conclusion of their games.

Do you guys lend out racquets?

Yes, we do! We only require a collateral, such as a valid student ID or Driver's License, which will be returned to you at the end of the session provided that the racquet has not been damaged or lost.

Can non-students join?

Yes! Our socials are open to all. However, please keep in mind our semesterly pass costs are subsidised for students of The University of Melbourne. Attendees are generally university-aged students or above, so please consider whether this environment will be suitable for your child.

What are the level of your players?

Our players generally range from beginner to intemediate level. We also offer support and training for high-level players through our Club Athlete Support Scheme (CASS), with trials held at the beginning of the semester. Further details, including the level of support, training timings, cost, and trial date, will be available around mid-February onwards.

Do you offer training for beginner and intermediate players?

We plan to offer training during semester, although the details are not confirmed. All information will be released towards the beginning of semester, so please keep your eyes peeled!

Do I need to be double-vaxxed?

Yes. To protect the safety of our players, please ensure that you have received double vaccinations, or hold a verified valid exemption. Refunds will not be offered to members who are unable to present valid evidence and have been denied entry by staff.

I've bought a social ticket but I can't make it! Can I get a refund?

The club no longer offers refunds for tickets if you are unable to make your session (aside from a medical emergency or another reason of similar nature). We can transfer your ticket to another day provided we receive at least 24 hours' notice. Transfers may be accepted under 24 hours if:

a) The session is not full; or,

b) If the session is full, and the removal of your ticket results in another player's purchase
