Course overview;

Course is open to children 8 - 16 with no or limited previous sailing experience required.

“This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills. They will learn some of the terminology, practice launching and returning to shore, sailing a course and capsize recovery. The program is structured to allow the participants to follow a pathway of learning. The actual daily activities will be largely governed by the daily weather forecasts. It should be noted that the course is over three consecutive days from 9.00am till 3.00pm each day and then three consecutive Saturday mornings from 11.00am till 1.00pm.  The course will proceed rain hail or shine.”

What to bring; Sunscreen, life jacket if you have one or borrow from the club, wetsuit or swimmers, footwear, towel and change of clothes.

Sailing dinghy's are provided by the club as part of the registration fee.

The event will be run in accourdance with any NSW state government Covid restrictions that are in place at that time.

Active Kids Vouchers

The NSW Government is helping kids get active with the new Active Kids program and Australian Sailing is an approved provider. From 31 January 2018, parents, guardians and carers can apply for a voucher valued up to $50 per calendar year for each school-enrolled child. The voucher may be used with an approved activity provider for registration, participation and membership costs for sport, fitness and active recreation activities. Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here
