Final Day NS14 Nationals and overall

Final Day NS14 Nationals and overall

The final day was a relaxed affair with only one race to be decided and the major places already decided, however as always the minor placing and handicap as well as the pride in winning a race were all still up for grabs.

At 10:00 am the first race was attempted in a light Northerly but with the boats taking 25 minuted to reach the top (short) mark and a 180deg wind shift the race was abandoned and the fleet sent ashore to await a settled breeze.

After a quick lunch the boats were back on the water and by then a light sea breeze had filled in.

The race got away in a light 7-8 knot SSE breeze after first a general recall and on the second start two boats were over only one of which initially came back. After sailing a third of the way up the course the other offender was finally convinced by his crew and son sailing another boat to return.

As the race progressed the breeze filled in a little more giving the fleet a nice sail to finish the competition.

Skinny Love Alex Poole and Natalia Jastrzbski had a great race leading from start to finish and crossed the line first to cap off a fun regatta.

TR6 continued the suberb form to come in second and California Times were third to round out a very consistant regatta for them.

Overall Results:

1st TR6 Mark Thorpe and Emma Rankin on   12pts

2nd California Times Chris Eddes and Rebecca Wiley on 23pts

3rd Paddy Wack Bradley Clarke and Tahlia Clarke on      30pts

Mark Thorpe and Emma Rankin showed great skill in always being at the front of the fleet irrespective of the conditions and are worthy winners of the 48th 2016-17 NS 14 National Regatta

On Handicap:

1st Skinny Love Alex Poole and Natalia Jastrzebski on 51pts

2nd Spinifex Peter & Karen Davis        54pts

3rd The Avengers Jason Followes & Harrison Followes 55pts

Alex Poole and Natalia Jastrzebski had a great regatta sailing into 4th overall and first on handicap topping it off with a heat win in the final race.

Peter & Karen Davis as always sailed consistantly and despite the conditions being a bit light for them did very well.

A special mention to Jason & Harry Followes who only got into the class this season and improved as the series progressed to get third on handicap a mere point shy of second, well done.

Trophy Presentation was at the Tasmania Golf Course across the bay from the club and photos of the winners are also attached to this page.

Congratulations to everyone who sailed, a big thanks to all our volunteers who made the event happen.
