Day 3 write up

Day 3 of NS14 Nationals

The day started out flat calm in the morning but by race time (Heat 5) a steady and building southerly of 12-15 knots with occasional stronger gusts had filled in right across the course.

There was an even start with most boats right up to the line and all on starboard.

There was some good racing and by race end TR6 was again home first from California Times and Paddy Wack in third unfortunately Nick McElwee in Under the Radar who loves those conditions lost his mast and retired and Lucas Upton in Aqua Therapy failed to cross the finish line also a number of boats had a swim.

After a request from the large spectator group at the club the course was moved closer to the club for the second race (Heat 6) which had a full list of boats and by then the wind a Southerly had both freshened to 16-18 knots with gusts into the 20s but also the temperature had dropped and the breeze had more weight to it.

Another clean start as the boats got away and this time Under the Radar was determined to put the previous races issued to bed with a great perfomance leading from start to finish and showing great speed at times. Again a number of boats had a swim despite the cooling temperature with some having multiple swims. By race finish Under the Radar Nick McElwee and Izzy Cameron showed the fleet how it was done with TR6 the next and closest boat with California Times in third. Four boats retired and Matthew Davis battled on the cross the line after capsizing several times only to find they were 2 minutes outside the time limit.

Overall after 6 races with the first drop the leaders are:

1st TR6 Mark Thorp and Emma Rankin 8pts

2nd California Times Chris Edders & Rebecca Wiley 15pts

3rd Paddy Wack Bradley Clarke & Tahila Clarke 18pts

there is another race session tomorrow
