This ride has been canceled for 2025 due to bad weather. We will look at re-run in 2026
This is a re-run of the 2023 ride, where bad weather prevented us from completing the route as intended. .
This is a 3-day, 2 night adventure - will be aimed to be around grade 4, designed for capable riders and their bikes.
The ride will be through the areas of Licola, Dargo, Dinner Plain, Hotham, Mansfield and Jamieson, an area of about 13,000 square kilometres.
We will be staying in Accomodation. Details below.
You will need to be prepared. 300km fuel range will be what I am planning around, there will likely be U-turns and re-routes due to changing conditions, what we end up doing will be determined by the conditions at the time.
We will meet in the carpark opposite the Warburton Fuel station, 3458 Warburton Hwy at 8AM on Friday Morning for a ride briefing.
The Trip Plan
Day 1 (Friday):
Meeting point will be the Warburton Service Station. We should probably meet no later than 8AM, fuel up and go. We have some ground to cover!
We'll ascend out of Warburton and take the most direct dirt route towards Dargo.
We will stop at Licola for lunch and to refuel. This will be mostly Grade 2 roads, But once we get closer to Dargo we have the option to descend Billy Goats Bluff to get us into Dargo, otherwise we have a choice of a number of other tracks, grade 3 to 4.There's about 280km of riding to Dargo.
Billy Goats Bluff has recently been graded and is rumoured to be doable in an AWD subaru forrester!
We will arrive into Dargo probably late afternoon. Supplies and fuel again.
Accomodation: We will be staying in Cabins at the Dargo River Inn.
Day 2 (Saturday):
We'll head north and check out the Blue Rag Range, as well as Twins Jeep Track, both provide great views from their ridge peaks. Blue Rag is in rough shape at the moment and will likely present a fun challenge and not having done twin jeeps track, I'm not entirely sure what we are getting ourselves in to.
If we have problems on Blue Rag, we will go back down to Dargo, refuel, and shoot up the high plains road and pick up twin jeeps track from there.
We'll push onto merrijig for the night for a bed and a feed.
Accomodation: Motel rooms at the Merrijig Motor Inn.
Day 3 (Sunday):
we’ll depart from merrijig after refueling and getting some final supplies and hit the tracks as we head back into the bush towards Jamieson.
Stop at Jamieson. Fuel and supplies, depending on the time of day there are a number of options to get home from here. I have plotted the route over Mt. Terrible and onto Big River Road --- but we'll see how we all feel at the time. ..
Track Length: 666.19 km
