Junior Soccer: Promising future for Chelsea

Published Thu 28 Apr 2022

Seven-year-old Chelsea Joseph has only just joined Maccabi U8 Girls Soccer - but already showing a bright future in the sport.

This past weekend, Chelsea played in her 2nd ever soccer game against Maroubra - and scored 9 goals, helping her team win 13-3!

But her strong soccer skills make sense. After all, she's the daughter of former outstanding Maccabi soccer players, Adam and Bec Joseph.

Chelsea's father, Adam, played 1st grade Hakoah for 15 years, and Chelsea's mother, Bec, has played the sport for over 20 years. Both have represented Australia in the Maccabiah team five and three times, respectively.

In addition to their amazing feats, Bec, who began playing soccer at the age of seven, co-founded the first Maccabi Open Women's soccer team in 1999 with Mick Vasin.

The Josephs' soccer-playing family tree doesn't stop there. Chelsea's brother, Gerry, also plays soccer for Hakoah U10s. He's an exceptional all-around athlete as well, who makes a significant contribution to the team.

Chelsea has a big passion for all sports including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, nippers, and most recently, Maccabi netball. She had previously competed in the NSW regional athletics championships, winning gold in the U8 girls long jump.

Following in the footsteps of her mum, dad, and brother in soccer - Chelsea enjoys playing alongside her friends, under the direction of their wonderful coach, Hugo.

Chelsea looks forward to the rest of the season and hopes to emulate her idol, Samantha Kerr, who also happens to play for her favourite team- Chelsea FC!

Good luck with your soccer career, Chelsea!
